bike powered soundsystem

hello everyone! i apologise for my long-term absence, i’ve been really fuckin busy with one thing or another!

i was wondering what the feasibility of building a small soundsystem that (ideally can be powered by aswell as) pulled by a bicycle. somethin i can wheel around at protest marches etc.

everyone loves a good dance after all

what would be the costs involved and is it pretty simple? cheers folks x

and shambala and I’m pretty sure beatherder had a tent with a bike powered bike it too –

I’m sure GL will be able to answer this question better

realistically if its only you involved you would be better off powering the sound system by solar panels (or even cheating and using mains to charge it before you go out, if you feel guilty sign up to ecotricity of something like that :laugh_at:)

As a bicycle dynamo only produces about 3-5W and a bike powered generator normally cannot be used as a bike unless you convert a turbo trainer (pedal PA mention this) and then you need more tat in your trailer and more cyclists to provide the power.

unless you have been training like Chris Hoy, and combining chucking amfet down your neck, and jacking up on roids with binge eating you are not going to be able to pedal a trade bike containing a sound system full of lead acid batteries and heavy speakers and charge it at the same time and then return it to base..

ok maybenot to power it, but a realistic lightweight soundsystem powered by something i can pull on my bike. soundsystem maybe the wrong term tbh, it suggess something big

it’s possible for sure as have seen it done and ran behind single-cycliss pulling a couple of speakers… not sure what the power source was.

You want a bike trailer then build up the back with a car sound system in a box or wedge shape. A sub or two a head unit and as many speakers as you can fit. Then have a couple of car batteries in the bottom. I heard that one battery will run for a couple of hours.

And welcome back Mr. Duck it’s been a while. 🙂

Would you not be able to “charge” up at least some of the batteries on the ride to the demos (so as to use as little leccy from coal as poss)? Then mby have some other means of gaining power? You could have solar panels as well like GL said and also use them to charge up some batts on the way there.

Assuming you mean something the power of a home hifi with regards to speakers rather then a bass bin. Would this change the situation with regards to the shear amount of batteries you’d need to carry?
