Anyone know of any good websites that make good trippy UV backdrops? Or would anybody like to make some for me?

I have been getting the urge to make some uv backdrops and other assorted decor recently. As such I’ve been looking around for uv paint suppliers. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations? I would ideally like to know what are the best fabrics, techniques and paints to use when creating drapes for decor. I’ve read some good things about system 3 acrylics but thought it would be best to check before I parted with too much cash. To be honest the lower budget the solutions the better, I’m not expecting anything great as I am no artist, just feel like messing around for a bit. If anyone knows of any forums etc where this sort of thing is discussed more regularly I’d be grateful if you could point me in the right direction.

This decor is mainly intended for my walls at home, and maybe the odd party but not in a club environment, so conformation with fire safety laws etc isn’t a must, but it would be nice for obvious reasons.

I’ve got some basic ideas but would welcome any advice people can offer before I go spending money on materials and then ruining them. At the moment I am planning on painting some fairly basic geometric patterns, trying to blag a projector of a mate so I can draw out a rough design on the pc, project it onto the canvas and then outline and infill with colour. Don’t know if that makes any difference etc paint wise.

Anyways any suggestions/input of any kind would be wicked.

              Thanks

Satyr has made some UV backdrops he uses the following…

                Rosco vivid FX colours…

Not the cheapest but give really good result with a wicked range of colours

                http://www.rosco.com/uk/scenic/vivid_fx.asp

Rosco Flamex flame retardent paint additive.. P50

                http://www.rosco.com/uk/scenic/flamex_p50.asp

Should be able to get backdrops from any local shop that sells lighting smoke machines to theatrical places..

Yeah Rosco colours are good IIRC from when Sammi made some hangings. The Level 3 acrylics are OK but don’t cover very well especially on dark background and are not so intense, but you can use them for colouring with highlights in Rosco to keep the cost down. Level 3 also has a tendency to turn muddy if you over-mix them (also to turn to leather if you put too many coats on !)

She just got loads of plain black or white material offcuts from market stalls and friends/relatives which made some great drapes when painted up.

Fireproofing stuff I think was pretty cheap, we bought a 5 litre thingy from the same place we got Rosco colours from (some stagecraft place, forget the name now), cos there were so many to proof, and we still have more than half of it left !

Thanks for the replys. Have ordered a pile of Rosco paint and some flamebar. Shall try to post some pics when I get round to putting paint to canvas.

or even have any advice on making uv banners. uv paint is well expensive and i dont wanna go wasting loads on something thats gonna look shite.

any websites that sell it would be useful too, cheers

the production costs are fuckin rediculous to make UV banners. ive got a friend who does them and charges between 100-300 quid a piece. you can find cheap ones on ebay and stufff. but theyre mass produced. if you want originality be prepared to fork out bare money. you’ll need a wax pot n stuff as well if u wanna do batik

This is something i’ve been trying to research. I’ve wanted to make a backdrop for ages, I;ve got some great art nouveau designs, but it does look tricky!

You’re guna need stencils, paint, spray fix and alot of patience.

Start with something simple liek a mushroom or a eye and see what u think.

I’m planning on starting mine as soon as i have the balls to try, I’ll post some pics when it’s done.

Im guna have a look at those links now, thanks SP 🙂

                                cheers for the info people,

ive been looking on ebay, just tryin to see if its more cost effective to make it yourself.

looks like either way its gonna be pricey for a decnt size banner

I was just trying to research making my own backdrops and I came across this thread, guess its looking like a pricey project, especially when im not sure if i would be good at it lol. nice one for the info people.

I brought myself some cheap 15 quid printed backdrops off ebay which are alright for a bit of home decore ;]
