sorry for thread drift but there’s an important issue here as there are understandable worries about what happened.
cops were there because an incident had occured in the vicinity of the club which had led to a stabbing.
this gives them obvious good reason to stick their noses in, all clubs are thought to attract wannabe hardmen and they expect this sort of stuff to happen.
They have every legal right to walk into any premises to look for suspects and this existed long before new licensing laws.
when the cops went in they saw people who were openly racking up lines; these people were promptly nicked .
moral of this story – expect to see cops in any legal venue at short notice; particularly with society being increasingly violent. They are doing licensing checks all across UK anyway due to the new laws, and late night venues will be subjected to considerable scrutiny.
Don’t expect a “safe haven” in any legal venue unless you know its layout extremely well, and even then don’t be complacent!
Cops are now trained to look for odd activity in corners and are more confident about entering noisy pubs/clubs as their new radios work better in these environments due to the digital technology so they can call for backup easier.
unfortunately I guess this will go down as a black mark against the venue, although hopefully not too bad – after the man with the knife is the real criminal – its wrong to collectively punish innocents or essentially he wins twice – once by hurting his rival and once again by making life harder for the venue management.
