On the community station I work with (and some others i’ve produced shows for in the 90s) they have to talk as its a Ofcom rule and when done well its OK (for instance the ASOT shows on 538, where Armin hosted amongst other things a phone in with a winner of the up and coming producer competition…). I agree there are way too many muppets what talk too loud and all over the vocals (and if they do not know how microphones work and what are good ones they can sound really rough, there’s a few online stations that have got turned off after 5 minutes listening for this reason)
I keep meaning to actually do a live trance show on PVR and will get round to it and have the kit to do proper voiceovers (including speaker muting and mic on lights I built using a arduino) but whilst I can see the value of interaction with listeners can’t see the point of announcing every track when you could just send the tracklist as a forum post or tweets.
