I initially read the subject line and thought this was gonna be about exposing the practices in some sweatshop in some far away foreign country (like what Amnesty and other charity appeal campaigners put through your door)

it is shocking to think this is happening in England today in 2007, but I think the Yanks were doing this to people in the 80s (the workfare scheme)

I tried looking for a claimants’ union for Sheffield but all I could find was Sheffield Indymedia and some info on the usual sort of eco-type demos which you probably have read anyway..

I have a nasty feeling the claimants’ unions have mostly given up and people just end up going back to the soulless office jobs anyway (at least they still exist up north and haven’t been outsourced like in the South and East!)
