was that a Mr Pitts? The chap who runs them hires marquees for a living – and the appear to have been quite popular (if commercialised) events a few years back
I believe he gained some notoriety as he made an ill-considered statement to the EDP in which he came across as supporting the clampdowns on other free parties; despite his own events actually being commercial pay raves without PELs!
I think also although the landowners may occasionally consent their nimby neighbours whinge due to noise/traffic….
the next week there was a BK weekender on the n/norfolk coast which was in comparison to the previous week seemed a lot more dodgy and was my 1st Proppa Illegal.
why was the BK event “dodgy?” was it simply the fact it was unlicensed?
AFAIK apart from the risks of conflict with the Police I’ve always thought BK events were fairly well-run and positive (there’s a few older threads about them); even if they have on occasions picked unsuitable venues such as active farms…
the paradox of conflict is that it often drives away the good people leaving behind the more angry, desparate types who enjoy a fight – if there aren’t cops to fight, sadly these types often find “other enemies” (this sort of mindset fucked up SE England raves on the Ridgeway around 2002-3)
unfortunately it creates a “self-fulfilling prophecy” that “raves are trouble spots” and then wider society clamours for more clampdowns..
