it was happening in the 1980s and in the early 1990s as well (at least in London/SE England) but we were either young and foolish ourselves or mostly too pilled up to notice.

in my town the murders were all amongst our age groups – people killing those they knew (and once loved) because their lives have increasingly gone to shit (job losses, money worries, emotional breakdowns) and then they finally snap, or turning to more and more drugs.

I’m encountering people these days whose lives have already started to go downhill in their 20s… perhaps its not surprising they turn to violence, if normal life is already shit prison or even death is no deterrent.
