CA : Promising folk singer attacked and killed by coyotes!

I'm glad I live in England where we don't have any of these creatures..

Quote:
CONSERVATION officers in Cape Breton were still hunting Wednesday for one of the coyotes that took the life of a young Toronto musician who was on an East Coast tour.
Taylor Josephine Stephanie Luciow, 19, a folksinger and songwriter who was known onstage as Taylor Mitchell, died in hospital Wednesday morning, a day after the attack.
Ms. Mitchell was hiking, apparently alone, on the Skyline Trail in Cape Breton Highlands National Park when she was mauled by two coyotes, said RCMP spokeswoman Sgt. Brigdit Leger.
RCMP received a 911 call at about 3:15 p.m. Tuesday that two coyotes were attacking a hiker. When they arrived, they found only one of the animals.

all the Canadian nature boffins say this is a very rare thing to happen - this I agree with as I read a lot of natural history news and if people get bit / eaten by creatures I tend to learn about it fairly soon.

Here in England the worst I have had to encounter in recent times is feeling something tugging at my leg and looking down to find a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel which had randomly got in the office, after playing with it for five minutes started wondering what on earth I was going to do with it (I didn't want to turn it in to the dog warden as the kennels aren't very nice places...)

Eventually it went back out of the door so I checked where it went to ensure it was safe, and it found its way back to its grateful owners in a neighbouring building..

I will admit though I was a bit alarmed (it had got in completely unnoticed, got under my desk and grabbed at my leg) until I knew what kind of creature I was facing, I do work out in the sticks after all..
