FIRE crews from across the north Suffolk were called to the Birds Eye factory in Lowestoft today.

Fire engines from Beccles, Lowestoft, Bungay and Yarmouth were called to the factory, on Whapload Road, at about 1pm after part of the roof of one of the buildings caught fire.

Part of the roof ducting had to be removed.

All of the staff were evacuated safely and the fire was put out by about 3pm.

I expect Biotech or Titch know more about the area but I think its a small bit of a huge factory - and would hope a business the size of Birds Eye would have business continuity plans so they can maybe shift the workers to non-burned parts of the factory....

its a large part of the nations food supply as well!
