With groups on facebook like a = apple, p.c = piece of crap

and my friends all trading in there p.c for some money and then buying a mac.
It has started me thinking.

Of course it depends on what p.c you have? yeah, no? Something about the cash on an apple processors, right?

Anyway any users out there with a mac? What you think?

Is p.c really dying?

Any thing else to write, please do.

pc's are so much more diverse with thier uses .. macs are aimed at creative uses and you can only do limited things on them .. alltho this doesn't make them better for doing them things ... a mac IS a pc ... but you can only use mac stuff on them ... macs have a dif os to pc's ... pc=windows linux - mac = something they made
with macs you can't really upgrade bits like ram/prosesser gfx cards ect. afaik .. where as with a pc the possabilatys are endless ... if you got a bit to spend ... then pc imo is definatly the way to go ... i hate being limited to doing only certain things with my computor .. i play games, produce music and can do basicaly anything i want on my pc from high end video editing to hacking free wireless connections (just using that as an example) a pc can do ANYTHING a mac can (probably better) and much more - the problem is alot of the pre built pcs you buy are over priced and don't preform like a pc of that price should .. so every one thinks pcs are shite ... mac's imo are just shit n e way no matter how much they cost ... they are more user friendly .. but that limits them to being able to do alot less

PC isnt dying, just mac is becoming more in the spotlight. both platforms are still expanding, especially with the arrival of windows 7, which is so far proving more popular than vista.

i would say mac is more pleasing to the eye, and more simple. Mainly used in the media and creative industries for things such as image manipulation, and many (music) studios use em on programs such as logic.

Macs can only use mac software, as PCs can only use.. windows based software. PCs are more traditionally used for gaming and.. everything else. Mac tries to automate and predict everything, whereas PC leaves you with customizability. I prefer windows.

It's not dying, its still doing well, just perhaps in your circle, many are involved in the creative industries where mac is a useful tool.

nah, not at all mate.

each to their own tbh, pc's aren't more diverse and tbh macs are better at creative things, but macs also have better integration within their programs and are more reliable - upgrading is complicated but the point is you shouldn't need to, whereas a pc has a more shorter shelf-life. most things can be used on both macs and pcs btw, including things like office (although the apple equivalent, iwork, is better imo)

you can get linux on a mac too. and user friendly, yes, but they don't treat you like a fuckin idiot. "are you sure you want to open this?" - yes of course i fucking am i clicked it didnt i.

on the downside some programs aren't available for macs, and they are expensive. but the latter is an obselete negative as the shelf-life is longer.

i have used pc's since i was a little kid and 2 years ago i switched to a mac. never looked back tbh.

pc's are more diverse cos as you said "you can't get some programs on mac" and you also can't play games .. it depends what you want to use your pc for that determins weather a mac can do the same job or not ... and not the other way round ... macs are not at all better at creative things cos your the one creating them ... all i will give macs is that they have more user friendly programs .. but what i have found is you can't get as powerfull tools on a mac that you can on a pc. i have had pc's all my life .. and apart for the shit ones .. when i have actualy bought a decent pc and built it my self rather than buying it pre made from a crap shop like currys or pc world that fuck the pc's up b4 you even get them .. (and tbh if i had to use one of them i would probably prefer a mac as well) i have had NO problems with relyability NO problems with anything tbh and i dunno what you mean by shelf life? my last pc i had was about 6-7 years old when something went wrong with it and the only reason the prosesser got damaged and i upgraded was because the preivous owner had it on 24/7 for about 4 years, that's alot of shelf life if you ask me.

Im in a very similar boat RE PC/Mac and with my Birthday approaching im thinking of treating myself to a Mac.

Ive pretty much been surrounded by PC's since i was a nipper but think I like the whole integration and logic piece a mac offers. Admittedly it is also about the look and feel of the thing as they are generally a beautiful device. . . . .

To buy or not to buy . . . . .

I moved to an iMac music station recently, I'm dead chuffed with it, everything just WORKS

I'm still keeping my PC for surfing, gaming, video... porn :P etc. I still hate Apple, their stupid pretentious iPrefix, their lack of two buttons, etc etc.

However for making music it's mac all the way now. 6 years making music on PCs and I'm sick to death of the endless endless problems you get with PCs. I just want things to work, dont want to have to do endless hacks and workarounds to deal with software bugs. So much lost data.. so many songs that wont open anymore cos a plugin fucked up.. so many many many restarts of my computer because it starts to stutter or freeze for some unknown reason.. much as I hate Apple, fuck PCs they've given me nothing but pain.

OSX is quite a nice operating system if you don't want to know too much about computing.

However the hardware is now total shit. I fix so many of them it's unreal nowadays and always the newer generations.

With a bit of googling most software problems can be fixed but without being a serious geek hardware problems are a fucking mission. So good luck with your macs.

Thanks for all the feed back lads, was looking at Hackint0sh - Powered by vBulletin (http://www.hackint0sh.org/) for the OSX.

I was also thinking that P.C is cool and so is apple and cant be that different in performance.

Anyway all cool

pc hardware isnt that hot either, within 6 months of getting my last PC i had to replace one of the RAM chips cos it was causing blue screens, replace the power supply which randomly died, and install a graphics card fan cos it was overheating.

AFAIK macs have a much better reputation for quality hardware, you probably see more going in for repairs because mac users are less likely to want to get their hands dirty than pc users.

That's a load of shit.

Macs use the same hardware as PCs nowadays. The only difference is they charge 3 times as much for replacement parts. I fix both in my spare time.

At the moment I have 3 imac's which need they "superdrive" replaced as they just die and stop reading cds or dvds. These have to be ordered from China or the apple shop wants £100. £100 for a fucking cd drive is a joke.

I also have a mac book pro with a broken keyboard caused by one of the battery cells over heating and bursting out. So it needs a new keyboard (apple wanted £80 I got one for £30 off another broken mac) and a replacement battery (apple want £100 but I got one from the same broken mac also for £30)

Basically they used to be well made and with custom hardware now they just use the same off the shelf shit and try and pack it into a tiny little fancy box, which causes all sorts of problems.

These machines are all under 2 years old.
