TBH I think he might be relatively sober, but its possibly just adrenalin, coupled with a bit of fear and paranoia?
He's an ageing rock star by todays standards with thousands of people barking at his heels to take his place and he knows every mistake he makes in his perfomance will be blamed on drugs/alcohol, also I think there were some technical/production errors in that show what would have made him nervous.
the way the media/pop music industry has gone its not even much fun being a star performer any more.
Although I never wanted to be in a boy band (although if I could sing in Chinese or Japanese I probably still could even at my age :lauhg_at:) 10 years ago I really wanted to work in TV-production or even presentation, but after seeing what happened to this industry I am fucking glad I didn't. Performing to audiences and becoming famous has the same effect as drugs, and sometimes it gets to the point where its not fun any more but there is addiction to its effect...

eyes were looking a bit wider than normal...
...maybe he is completely sober and that's a sign of aging i wasn't aware of.

At a guess i would say coke, pills, Ketamine, LSD, shrooms, crack, heroin and a bit of cheese.

even if he has taken a small amount of any stimulant this would actually be made stronger by the effects of adrenalin caused by fear - all amfetamine type stimulants mimic the effects of adrenalin.
I don't watch x-factor but it was in the news today that Robbie Williams said he was worried about his performance having been put on edge by a malfunctioning automatic door amongst other things. a pop star is a disposable commodity in todays music industry, yet he's gonna need to keep selling records to keep the lifestyle he's accustomed to. I think he wanted to make a comeback so of course he's gonna be a bit more paranoid of fucking up - perhaps a lot more so then he was in his twenties as a lot more is at stake.
I know plenty of folks who have had everything in their 20s (not even fame, just good jobs, relationships, parties, drugs) and they have made one or two mistakes and ended up in the gutter by their 30s, some institutionalised or some taken their own lives. It is a dangerous time and you have to be a bit "paranoid" sometimes. I don't blame him one bit for being a bit hyper , I am like that myself in some pressure situations when stone cold sober (people have even asked me if I have taken drugs!)

and a bit of cheese.
I think it was defo the cheese that tipped him over the edge, something fancy like blue cheese...

back to his eye's I'd have thought all the bright lights would have made his pupils smaller, and if on stimulants pupils are ususally smaller - so .... anyones guess really
