Experiments with free hashish is on the way in Copenhagen,
the capital of Denmark.
A political majority in the Copenhagen citizense representation
are now getting ready for an attempt to sell legal cannabis.
According to a proposal from officials, sales outlets with State monopoly
of a three-year experiment sell Hashish to all, who would like to buy -
and it must be cannabis HARVESTED ON LEGITIMATE weed fields.
Sales can either be "in relaxed environment" Cafes - or in a more neutral
shops A LA the Swedish alcohol monopoly. In both models, there must be staff, which can advise on the use of cannabis.
The note from the bureaucracy high at the same time our concern that a
decriminnalisation of cannabis will lead to more addicts.
CONSUMPTION IS NOT HIGHER IN THE COUNTRIES WHICH HAVE decriminalised cannabis for their own use, the citizense representation.
and where consumption is lower than in Denmark.
Is that good or bad?
We tried years ago with poppies and the fields got ripped. :laugh_at:
 Progressive governing regarding drug use.....Denmark rocks!! raaa

i hope it's not too much like the swedish alcohol model
i couldn't find a bottle of pinot grigio in any of the govt run shops when i was last there and the staff actually suggested a Chardonnay to drink with the spicy shellfish soup i was going to cook :you_crazy
government control of almost anything usually fails to be as good as the situation would be without government contro

I expect they must be selling it and recovering taxes for their equivalent of the NHS.
I hope it goes well but if it fucks up there is a strong Christian Democrat (i.e Conservative) movement in Denmark who will seize the opportunity to say "I told you so"..

yep thats what it sounds like
I wouldn't actually agree with giving away weed for free as it could cause a lot of other problems, including a reprisal from criminal groups who feel the govt is destroying their lucrative market
a good friend of mine has family in Denmark and he tells me some stories about gangs there, and some of them would not be afraid to use firearms or IEDs if made angry enough...

isn't your government still centre right (although the main centre right party calls itself "Venstre" (Left!!) which is really confusing to someone in England trying to follow the politics!!)
this sounds like the sort of good idea discussed at "fra rådet til tinget" Teknologirådet (http://www.tekno.dk) ( with domain tekno.dk!) (but presumably these ideas need to be debated at the full Parliament (Folkestinget) before being rolled out?
also drugs can only be decriminalised, not legalised unless a nation is prepared to leave the EU and UN, and maybe be at risk from sanctions or boycotts from angry anti-drugs nations
in England we have had senior policemen and top government scientists say to our government that drugs should be decriminalised and they have been completely ignored..

....the discussion zero-tolerance/harm-reduction goes on and on and on here aswell, this project legalise, was put on by local-mayor in Copenhagen all due to on comming local elections.....
By all means, this is far the best that have come from political channels in a long time, but as I said before local goverment is up against national parlament, and they(national) are not happy or satisfied with this proposal, they more like shot it down before lift-off.....

incidentally what is the Teknologirådet? is it part of the Government, or independent? I would have expected it by its name to concentrate on computers and stuff like that (more like IT-og-Telestyrelsen which I understand is government, like Ofcom in this nation) but it seems to give advice about lots of wider social issues.
