My 23 year old brother was stopped by police in his car and found with 7 grams of cocaine in bulk and £500 cash. He is unemployed. They searched the house and found nothing. This is first time offence. He has to wait until late september to see if he will be charged. How likely is it that he will be charged with intent to supply? and also how likely is it that they will check bank records?

He was also tested for cocaine in his system and came up clean.

how about scales? baggies?

don't think they will check bank records, but whatever he does DO NOT say that he picked it up for friends, that is intent to supply

Just tell him to say that it is all for personal use and that he got the money from a girlfriend,

probably best to give a no comment interview and then in consultation with a solicitor submit a written statement

If it was me and i had that much in bulk i'd tell em that i have a serious coke habit and that it was all for personal use.

If it was in individual wraps then it would look very bad indeed.

If he tells em it's for his own usage then he should be ok.

Hopefully.

I would get a good solicitor and hope for the best, but at the same time start psychologically preparing for the risk of your brother doing a few months of prison time as a worst case. the fact he came up clean may even count against him as its not uncommon for some dealers to not touch the drugs and just take the profits.

he may be lucky and just get probation / treatment order etc but because your brother is unemployed the "justice" system may feel they are paying for him anyway so it doesn't matter if taxpayers money is spent on sending him down - a couple of my mates got sent down for organising illegal raves (even some of the cops thought this was harsh) but it definitely seemed the fact they were unemployed and receiving benefits counted against them...

Ah i didn't read that bit about him being clean. That doesn't bode well.
