My friend was a guest speaker/demonstrator at an international ceramics festival in North Wales a couple of weeks ago. He made a clay sculpture that gets covered in heat-proof material and then fired over 24 hours up to a temperature of 1200 degrees C. After 24 hours it is unveiled (all teh het-proof material is taken away) leaving teh sculpture still standing, glowing and looking awesome for some minutes.

Another friend and I were asked to play songs about fire and heat as a metaphor for love (my old flame, warming my heart, burning love, etc) for the entire 24 hours climaxing at the unveiling where we generated an atmosphere of excitement, discomfort and anticipation by making some nasty noises, repeating loops from a load of the fire songs and sending sub-bass drones through teh system. At teh unveiling itself we dropped a tune that we spent a LONG time selecting and then we edited it a bit so that it better met our needs.

Anyway, here is a video from during the day (nobody got much sleep and I managed to stay awake for 43 consecutive hours in total)...

Yep - pretty much.

These do give a pretty good impression though... or maybe that's just because I was there!

how long did it take to cool down

i couldnt help but wonder what would have if it exploded and people were peppered with burning ceramics

It was cool enough to touch a couple of hours later and it got moved teh next day.

Exploding was a bit of a concern, but these artist types know what they are doing so not too much of a worry TBH.

Cheers Mr F - glad you are still enjoying one of my mixes.

And thanks for being so concerned that I might be giving up on the DJing! :group_hug

It was the last gig I played at... NOT my last ever gig

And it was pretty fuckin' cool too - I still smile every time I think about it :weee:
