Saint Swithun (or Swithin[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swithun#cite_note-0)) (died 2 July 862 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/862)) was an early English (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/England) Bishop of Winchester (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bishop_of_Winchester), now best known for the popular British (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Kingdom) weather lore (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weather_lore) proverb (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proverb) that if it rains on Saint Swithun's day, 15 July (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/July_15), it will rain for 40 days and 40 nights.

It rained on and off today. Looked at the weather just now and it's gonna chuck it down next couple days. Someone needs to find this 'saint' and kick him in the scrotum.

Also, rain has to stop geographically at some point. I remember when I was very young that I left my house on my little BMX and it was raining, but as a kid you don't care.

BUT I got to the end of my road and a bit and the rain was not there and it was a lot dryer if I recall. I actually rode back to my house for something and it was still raining.

I hope I am not lying, I am sure it happened that way.
