not really, because of the unique way the european elections work, it's proportionate representation unlike our local and national elections.
for example, in the North West four MEP's will be elected. now it's safe to say Labour, Tories and the Lib Dems will get 3. But the fourth spot is between Greens and BNP. It's currently very close but if some voters of the main 3 parties make a "protest" vote against the BNP and vote for Greens, it will not only give the greens a seat in the European parliament it will prevent fascist scum BNP getting a seat.
also the greens do have support - they already have two elected MEPs. the thing is you're not voting for national government, you are voting for a seat in a parliament - the more seats the Greens get, the more they have influence and can argue their case in the European parliament.
too many people are treating this as a national or local election, it is completely different, therefore it is not a case of "one of the main 3" at all - that's what is good about it.

We have some Green MSP's up here and they are fucking useless, as we have proportional representation.
They had the SNP by the balls over the budget as they had the deciding votes and all they demand is a promise for more insulation in new build houses.
More fucking insulation I'm sure that's why people voted you in.

i understand the system boothy iv did a politics a level, the point is getting 4 lonely green party members sitting there is along way from making a differance, the amount of support they have isnt enough even if they got afew seats it doesnt mean anything id rather put my vote towards trying to close the gap in support between the lib dems (who i voted for in the local elections and genuninly feel are a considerably lesser evil) and labour/tories
also green party stand less than no chance in the national elections when it is first past the post so id rather support the lib dems in the hope that they can gain more support and potentially have a chance of becoming the government

fair play, i wasnt meaning to sound patronising or condescendin in my reply although reading back it does sound a bit tbh
imo i agree greens have no chance in nationals but in europe other countries will vote their respective "green" parties thus a sizeable amount of MEPS from various different countries will be united and have a combined voice to argue for climate change.

I think you would be surprised. Scotland has proportional representation and there has been several cases where the smallest players have been vital come the crunch.
I just think that the greens have been the most fucking useless party to ever enter politics. Yes they mean well but they are a bunch of spineless hippies at heart who don't act like the believe in themselves.
A minority party has to have the balls to actually make a difference and I don't think the greens, going on their record in Scotland have a chance.
