Anyone any suggestions as to why the two are so different content wise? Why for example does Squat Juice seem to feature endless trolls, pointless idiotic comments, attempts at humor and some truly random and entertaing posts. SJ also seems to have more free party comment although diluted.
Sorry if thats a foolish question, I think far too much.

I read it, well, I flick through the main page and find a seemingly interesting post every few days that turns out to be something it didnt apear to be (and not interesting).

a lot of legal / commercial promoters don't like the fact we won't let them post until they suscribe and walk away from here (even though all they need to do is be friends wiht someone what is a subscriber in their region and they will plug the event if its a good'un)
SJ used to be alright until about 2005 or so; it even had a friendly (if strange) community of people many of whom I have partied with in real life when I lived in SE England. Then for some inexplicable reason people dealt with police in SE England getting heavier on raves by turning on each other rather than working together and it all went slowly downhill. Lots of people what started out as real life friends are now enemies and only barely tolerate each other because of ketamine... and people (not just trolls) actually brag about stuff like fights and vandalism at parties knowing the cops are reading which isn't a clever thing to do..
last SE England party I went to in 2007 a whole bunch of people was arguing there about stuff what had gone on on SJ.... OK all this politics can easily happen without the net but at least here it would be stamped on , we don't go for this bogus "free speech" argument when it destroys peoples real life social networks...

I often read sj mainly as i try to help people out in the vehicle help section and as i 97%of the time get sound advice in the computer section advice from the likes of Richy Freeway etc,but the mud is a laugh to read once you have filtered out the trolls, reposts etc.
Don't you find this place a lil "fluffy"sometimes?:crazy_diz

although i'm new to this i think the difference between PV and SJ is one of mentality.
PV seems to have a core of good people who know a bit about each other and are polite and respectful and don't engage as freely in offensive exchanges or respond to childish posts in a childish way. I think the moderators play a very importaint role too keeping it civil and giving advise about appropriate threads of conversation.
Suffice to say like mind people tend to seek company together and it is reasonable to assume that if the 'wrong' kind of poster was eather fed (as a troll) or found a small network of reinforcement within the PV forum and/or was tollerated by the moderators and members they would quite happily post shit here all day long.

I tried signing up for SJ because a couple of my friends did and i never got the confirmation email so couldn't actually post anything. Even when i asked them to resend the confirmation email about 3 or 4 times i got nothing so i gave up. After reading through the sight i decided it was probably a good thing anyway. Everyone seemed a bit up themselves and i saw them having a go at people for liking certain types of music.

although I've only been in this region for 3 years some mates of mine we probably both know told me that they have seen all them lads what slag off hardstyle and Norfolk parties (i.e their own local scene) on SJ jumping around in the stack :laugh_at:
I wouldn't say this place is that fluffy as it does openly discuss both the good and bad aspects of raving - and TBH it might be better to at least try and make raves look a bit "fluffy" than people bigging up negativity and violence like what happens on other forums/networks (not even just SJ) - without the "fluffy" bit there's no reason for the rest of society to let either unlicensed or legal raves happen!
If the scene genuinely was a bit more positive we'd still be having decent raves in our region without people having to sacrifice their rigs and get into crime to fund them..

i don't even see why there is a rivalry
and unfortunately PV can be very closed minded and bias about the people on SJ, "rude wankers" and "full o arrogant ket heads" all these comments come from PV members about SJ
some SJ members call partyvibe fluffy and fassy and hippy but tbh i've heard more stronger dislike coming from some of our members
both have their place and they are not mutually exclusive!
General Lighting

there was no real rivalry between PV and SJ or Dirtycircus until 2005 or so when a handful of trolls started targeting both sites, and got annoyed because they weren't tolerated here so they talked up the rivalry. There are good people on SJ, I know many in real life; but they have increasingly been drowned out by a few muppets. Just like what happened on the free party scene in the south of England in real life.
That said, some ravers were so paranoid about the very concept of moderators that many refused to use this site as long ago as 2002/03 - simply because there were moderators - the irony was that although our names came up in red we actually had no edit/admin functions until about 2004 and it was very rare for any mods to intervene! We even had unregisted guest posting until 2005 (as did SJ), until the trolls destroyed that freedom as well.
We are so fucking lucky as it is that in Britain we are even allowed to host forums openly talking about drugs, sex, unlawful/illegal activities etc without everyone being stalked to fuck by feds or the site being closed down...

i thought this site was hosted in america?
General Lighting

the "free speech" laws in the USA are similar to the UK (although potentially more stringent for US citizens).
The laws regarding websites are not 100% clear-cut, and it can be argued by the legal eagles that irrespective wherever the site is hosted, the majority of the community here are from Britain and the EU, and should therefore be answerable to UK law, particularly if their discussions mostly relate to real life activities and incidents in the UK.

oh i see =)
mind u i couldnt see feds breaking into / closing down websites about drugs when its not exactly a ring of dealers discussing is it.. its not economical
they go for high priority sites such as ones dealers lurk on i imagine?

cops (even in harsher countries) don't always close websites as can they provide a valuable intelligence source - but use the info gleaned from them to monitor and bust people.
there was once a point where all rave forums could get away with posting up names of rigs and crew, pics of parties, partylines and even rough locations without getting any grief off the cops - but by 2004/5 they were using all of this in evidence against people...

I like both.
Each has it's own characteristic that appeals to me in one way or another.
Each side has decent members, people I've met (on both forums). The only difference is the humour on Squatjuice. It can be dark at times and to the untrained eye quite offensive, although 99% of the times the jokes mean nothing and should be treated lightly. i've always been a big believer in a joke being a joke. Of course the boundary is when someone is seriously taking offence, or being particularly targeted in which time it breaks one's own respect for other people.
There are alot of tossers on SJ. However there are alot of users too. There are some people who don't post as often that are just as sound as some of the bigger posters.
I think the main problem is how briefly people use the place then judge it. I've used it alot now and have a pretty good Idea of most regulars on there and can mostly tell a tosser from gooden. You just learn to ignore some people, often I just miss some people's threads alltogther. Once you learn who to take offence too, and who to ignore, then you can filter it out and have an interesting read.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone well interesting, i'll stick with PV (not that I was considering moving) but thats largly because I find people talk far less bollocks on here (im not sure i really get SJ humor) and seem more friendly. :)
though I do feel like I just piss people off on here asking too much about random things, not knowing enough about the music etc, but then I never really feel like i fit in anywhere so i'm certain its my own issues haha.

Bollocks mate, asking random questions is good, it keeps the board moving, nobody gets pissed off in the slightest!
