19 Year Old Sentenced to Prison for Violence at Rave

"A 19-year-old man who charged at police in riot gear while at an illegal rave in Norfolk has been ordered to pay an officer compensation.

Ryan Broomfield, of Stile Close, Mulbarton, admitted affray at premises in Boundary Road, Great Yarmouth, on 19 August 2007, at Norwich Crown Court.

He was given an eight month sentence in a young offenders institution, suspended for two years.

He was also ordered to pay Pc Jonathan Loud £400 in compensation.

Broomfield was also ordered to do 180 hours unpaid work.

'Hit out'

Malcolm Robins, prosecuting, said police were called to premises where an illegal rave was taking place.

The police, in riot gear, met opposition from a crowd who attacked them.

Pc Loud said in a statement read to the court that his shield was pushed into his visor causing his nose to bleed.

He said Broomfield was aggressive, hitting out at the shields and gesturing towards the police.
The court heard that Broomfield said he had drunk 24 cans of Fosters lager.

Michael Clare, mitigating, said Broomfield was ashamed of his behaviour.

Recorder Guy Ayers said: "You attacked a police officer causing damage to his face. Police were simply carrying out their public duty."

Tight, anyone know the bloke. First actual time spent inside by anyone due to goings on at a party (except for drugs) i've heard of sinse being involved in the scene.

some of the lads from the Essex 2006 fiasco did get sent down for throwing stuff at coppers...

however this article says this lad got a suspended sentence...

and people who kick off at coppers tend to get nicked and in trouble whatever the situation.

OK we don't like it at raves, but what about when people are kicking off at coppers because they were trying to intimidate a load of hard working immigrants on a Ipswich estate who dared to stand up to them but because things escalated had to call 999?

happened to the staff at my work a few years ago, cops turned up and had to call for backup (2 more cars and a riot van) because these angry lads felt they had the right to bully immigrants and didn't like the fact the cops were prepared to stop them doing so..

it is very rare for rave organisers to get prison time unless as RBP said they can be proven to be funding the events or rigs via drugs sales and busted for that separate offence. In 2001 or so some organiser in Essex did get 3 months but it was apparenlty because the warehouse was dangerous with a missing top floor what people could have fallen through!

I know of one local lad what may be facing prison for his involvement in a rave (his case is to be heard in Crown rather than magistrates) but we're all hoping it won't go that far, TBH it would be unjust as he had no part whatsoever in any violence or major crime and even the CPS have dropped some other more serious charges he was facing leaving just the unlicensed event as the main charge...

its a fucking shame really as some of Kan are older than both of us and they really should have had more sense than that...

that building was in use and owned by a family business in Norfolk and their directors had decided to keep their production in East Anglia unlike their competitors (heatrae) what moved production of electric heaters to Malaysia (a country where in December is usually 20-25 degrees celsius) with the loss of loads of British jobs. it wasn't a void warehouse it was going to be their new factory, and a simple google search would have shown that up.

Plus it kicked off also because the rig van had been used in metal thefts around East Anglia and feds already had it on index..

if people are gonna chat hippy peace love and community stuff they need to live by it, not live like dysfunctional theiving scum or everyone is gonna end up losing out...

And yes it's a bloody stupid thing to do. Although the way the OB came storming in chucking tear gas everywhere I'm not surprised he lashed out.

Saying that they were probably frustrated as it took them hours to get into the party. Was properly fortified.

Age old arguement- stupid place to put a party-they'd been chucked off the first site and just wanted to have a fight really.

Was a good ride while it lasted though. (The whole BK thing, not that particular party!)

but I personally dont believe that jus by being a copper you should expect to be 'assaulted' as part of your job.

from the sounds of this incident - the copper seems to be taking the piss and milking it

I am aware that they should be aware that it is a potential risk of the job - but it isnt in your contract and shouldnt be expected or accepted -
not all OB are cunts, and sone of them are human beings :wink:

other such proffesionals are also told to 'expect it' as part of their job , ie nurses / security - and I really disagree with this

Yeah point taken and I did think about this before I posted but I'm still sticking to my point on the basis of... "Bleeding nose" (taking the piss and milking it, as you rightly said) I mean if he broke his arm or something like that I'd have said nout. But a bleedin' bloody nose is a piss take! :you_crazy

yeah some people are just f'in dumb ... they think it's harmless fun but there just asking for trouble ..and bringing it on top for every one else .. as the police and like are well renowned for taring every one with the same brush
