...before people believed in god.
I mean did everyone in the entire history of man except Jews and Christians go to hell?
Everyone who was too far away to hear the word of God by default was a sinner and fried for it. Hardly fair.

Actually that is a good question. You have Abraham being called righteous because he believed and it was counted to him as righteousness......There is an actual explanation which I am not very good at, so please forgive me if this sounds bizarre. Back before Jesus, around the time of the Patriarchs (Abraham, Noah, Moses), when they died they went to Sheol, which technically s NOT hell...there was a place set aside for those who had faith and acted righteously and when Jesus died, THEN they ascended to heaven. That is the best I can explain it, from having it explained to me.
The Gentiles were reached through Paul and the church......I'm not really a scholar on world history at that time, so I can't say Gentiles went to hell before Jesus. There's more to it than just by default they went to hell.
Sorry if I've just confused you further - been a looong day! :weee:
