so its not a free party....
its a club night that usually charges a tenna or whatever doin one withouit chargin.
they'll make their money over the bar.....
they can promote it as a free party, and use a pic of my mates land rover at sheffstock on the flier, but its still a club night.
i'm not sayin there's anythin wrong with club nights, and dill's a mate of mine, but there's a big difference beetween a club night and a free party, and its not all about money. to me the "free" part of free party means freedom, and there wont be too much of that in a club night....

good point.
Im gonna tuck a bottle vodka down my coat tho so its gonna be quite cheap for me! im never really that bothered by the bouncers anyway. cant beat a party outside tho! still trying to decide between this and the party on sat, fri will be easy on my head come monday morning, but ive got a feeling sat should be quality too... decisions, decisions...

we have this same issue down south, but I've been to these sorts of events where the "security régime" is actually fairly relaxed.
Ok drinks may be a bit pricier but at the one I went to they had some decent DJ's who had travelled a fair few miles, and I don't go to dance music events to get pissed anyway, rather do that with closer friends or even on my own, turns out to be a bit safer that way, and combining excessive alcohol with "other stuff" just wrecks my stomach these days.
These events are also good for people new to an area. It was because of a similar one in Ipswich I made loads of new friends in the last couple of years..
What does look good about it it appears that you've got loads of East European people attending and contributing - multicultural societies only succeed when people can play as well as work together... (if I lived near I'd attend just out of curiosity at the music...)
At least you lot can take it or leave it, as there currently are still loads of "proper" free parties round your way. In some areas an event like this (or even one with a small entry charge) is all that you've got..

fuck the weather! worse mistake you can make is looking at the weather forcast. i missed a party last weekend cause the forecast said it was gonna rain, then by the time i realsied it wasnt going to i was too pissed to get up there. Just get to the party then if it does rain at least your there and can make the most of it! its only a bit of rain, wellys and a poncho and your ready to go!

so its not a free party....

they'll make their money over the bar.....
I thought i'd throw my tuppence worth in as I did the flyer...
I can understand Dave getting protective about what he might see as the evils of "The Man" ripping off a scene he loves - but its not really like that and many of those involved have been playing & supporting free parties since the early 90s
There's not much point getting into a "club v outside" debate as everyone's got their own views -and the old chest nut of whether a free party means "no cash" or "freedom" has run and run on many an internet board... so I'll leave it for another day...
In reply to some of Dave's main points - Zogg normally hires the club and so doesnt make any money off the bar and wont be doing so on Friday. The venue had a free date and as it summer we'd normally be quiet - so doing it a free party keep the venue happy (as they'll sell lots of drinks) and Zogg will do a busy party at a normally quiet time of year - and hopefully party goers get a good knees up for free - so everyone gets something out of it...
(BTW The normal Zogg admission price (£8/10 or a fiver in adv) just about covers cost of venue hire/publicity/Djs/live acts/performers/decor and sadly no one will ever be able to retire to the bahamas on the proceedings!)
they can promote it as a free party, and use a pic of my mates land rover at sheffstock on the flier, but its still a club night.
VP is a mate of mine as well and the pic was taken as Dil Zogg was playing (on his & Gordies rig if i remember correctly) at the first Shefstock. If anyone was paying attention (and was really techno!) - they have noticed the piss take of the liberators CD (Its not intelligent etc) making very clear it was not outside or the arches - but still hopefully 'aving it!
Anyway... after all that waffle... the party is what it is... its an allnighter party in a good & relaxed club and its free... so if you'd prefer not to go - no probs - I'll see you in a field somewhere this summer.. but if you fancy a night out - we'll see you on Friday!

If I was posting the event - I'd probably have put it in the events section - but anyway - it's here now... (though it is "free" and it is a "party"..)
If anyone had actully been to any of our events at Plug - they'd be able to tell you that the club & security are pretty relaxed and we dont get loads of twats - in fact its probably one of the friendliest crowds you'll get..
Anyway - I'm not going to change anyone's mind who doesnt like clubs full stop - so there's no much point getting into the arguments
...though it has been entertaining seeing just how far folk have got wound up!

Think what you like mate - most of the DJs & acts tomorrow have been playing at free parties for a long long time and put a lot into the party scene over the years (ask anyone who's been partying round sheffield for more than a few years) but if you take putting on a night for free with a decent line as a fuck you - then fair enough - I'm sure you're more techno than us all.
Good luck with your parties and I hope you have a more postive attitude towards them.

firstly, lets not kid ourselves here john, zogg is a business, its a commercial night, and by doin a free event you'll be hopin to bring new folk into the event, who, after havin a good time will hopefully return on normal "pay" nights.... nothin wrong with that.
but you're on a free party forum here mate, and despite what you said previously, it looks to me like you're sellin this night as a free party, and a lot of folk think that a free party is more than a club night doin a one-off event without chargin.
secondly, i fully accept that folk connected with zogg have been involved in the free party scene in the past, but i haven't been aware of them doin anythin for a number of years, and i dont think i've ever seen you at a free party in this area.......... so engage in all the verbal sparrin you like with folk who STILL own and run free party sounsystems, we've all got our own opinions, we just do different things, and there's no such thing as bad publicity as i'm sure you know mate.
take care, dave.

Dave
Points taken - it was all done a bit tongue in cheek anyway - as I said - if i'd have posted the ad - it'd have been done in the events bit - but it was put up by some who goes to our parties - who might not be as up on all the politics side of it.
(BTW - despite what everyone may think about us all being evil capitalists - Zogg isnt and has never been done for the cash - it just about scrapes even most months - like just about everyone who does parties - we do it cos we love the music and the parties)
cheers
John

Why dont you just call it Planet Zog instead of free party? I've never organised a club night in my life (though we have a fundraiser soon) if I did I'd never advertise it as a free party. The word free dont just meen money its all about freedom from restrictions a licenced club night what ever the cost has non of this. That is my point, so it is abit of a 'fuck you' to the free party scene as a whole. Why not just advertise it as something diffrent?...
I was posting on here coz I agree with dave not that he needs any back up. I dont think I'm more techno than anyone I dont even dj I, I dont go to any techno club nights or any club nights for that matter coz I dont like em. I only likr free partys, I've been atending them since 1991 & puttin em on since 1993 I've worked with Circus Normal, AHC I, Tribe of TWATS & now I run AHC II all of them were/are pure anachist traveler rigs. In my opinion its all about freedom & creating an atonomous zone free from interferance, to me thats what a free partys is.
So if you want to think I'm a prick for voising my opinion about the lableing of you club night your quite wellcome. I've said for the last 7-8 years that the free party scene in the UK has changed for the worse and I think I'm quite right. Its nothing to do with the law or ketamine its people & society.
I like the Sheffield scene & the people are great but theres allot of squabbling. We've had 2 great partys over there and like to think were pretty wellcome with our piket in nikey attitude. Theres only 2 party crews in my town us & Bass Behavior the latter largly inactive now, theres no dance club nights but were starting one on the 8th of August with Bass Behavior its not free its £3 all profits are going to local green futures & comunity based charitys.....
