nah, girls outnumber blokes in this country, its just that for varying reasons (worries about safety?) less and less of them go to raves / dance music and those what do attend stop going after their early/mid 20s whether or not they have got a partner - I know loads of girls in their 20s upwards who stopped partying in recent times and have never returned. not all of them have settled or had kids, many just wanted to concentrate on careers etc... or they actually find raves hostile and agressive

you will rarely meet a girl above 21 in todays parties (well here in East Anglia anyway) and many seem to go with their partners as otherwise they get sleazed over (and even then it happens and their bfs even get threatened sometimes) - and its not from us "old men" but lads their own age...

this aint the 80s any more. gender politics are like 1970s but worse.... I don't mean the odd bit of banter like what sometimes comes out on here, its like the equality of 20 years ago no longer exists, so women feel a lot less safe than back then.

I think a lot of ex-raver girls go commercial clubs now as at least theres big bouncers to kick out the sex pests and when the girls get bored with this they concentrate on work/college..

Theres loads of unattached girls/women in "normal" lifestyles. Its just that us blokes have to go back to that sort of lifestyle if we want to get with them - including even not staying out late at weekends, looking after a shared house, in some cases even going church on sundays (most of the young staff at my work do)

my thoughts...

1) the party scene is obviously very much caught up in the drugs scene (even if just on the basis that that is how you make contacts) ...and girls don't get involved in drugs so easily...i for one have never been offered drugs but my b/f is always getting asked. not sure if it is just me! dont look the type perhaps

2) men know men, and as the party scene is very much word of mouth that is how it gets passed down.

3) men are more interested in non mainstream music???

4) girls wear heels...parties are in fields :weee:

what do you think?

hmm, clearly there are big regional differences

I know loads of young female caners in the eastside and they are worse than the blokes, but many of them are still in their teens..

it also may not be that "you dont' look the type" but if you are with your bf blokes don't want to look sleazy or risk beef - and if you are not there are actually a fair few good looking girls who are WPCs or even detectives...

2) men know men, and as the party scene is very much word of mouth that is how it gets passed down.

hmm, girls I know have loads of different pairs of shoes including more robust ones for more active pursuits as well as heels...

seriously though I think also that on the illegal party scene (some) men enjoy the conflict with building owners, farmers and coppers (at least until they lose) but girls don't want to get involved in this...

I don't mean to say that girls/women are "boring" but they do mature quicker and with the world not getting any nicer a place I think they just want to take less risks with their lives (again this is just a natural instinct)

to me the gender imbalance is new and worrying - the early 90s to mid 2000s raves were a lot more mixed...

theres a vicious circle as when even the girls with partners stop going their mates stop as well or they stay in or go elsewhere whilst their bf stays making the events a lot more male dominated nowadays..

it even creates a dodgy atmosphere at raves and clubs here as there are two generations of blokes competing for one generation of girls, and a lot of testosterone about

Its got to the point I've witnessed "townie" style violence where one of my mates friends was attacked at a rave because he just "looked at someone elses missus", this is all the bullshit I go raves to escape from :hopeless:

yep - i'd agree with these.

i go partying with large amounts of females, and most of them know how to party harder than the blokes! quite a lot of them are over 21 and quite a lot of them are single.

ive never noticed a gender imbalance down here, but then maybe im just not really paying attention!

i never feel threatened or uncomfortable as a female at a free party if i go without my other half... unless i go to london squat parties but theyve just got such a different vibe to bumpkin parties.

it wasn't quite as bad in SE England but the bulk of the crowd of ravers is a bit older there.

But even when I was raving there I do remember a lot of my female friends aged 24-30 dropping out of the scene permanently. The bulk of them went to uni or "steady" jobs, although a few had kids and two became policewomen!!

I was once part of a crew and we'd go round and try to get a rough count of how many people were present for health and safety reasons (and our own enlightenment as to how well we were doing).

Gender balance is a health and safety issue. when a group becomes male dominated (even in legal events) the blokes tend to find something to fight about

i never feel threatened or uncomfortable as a female at a free party if i go without my other half...

this is a fairly new problem, it wasn't like that until a few years ago. what is happening on a wider level is the "Londonistan" attitude is creeping into the bumpkin parties too, even in Norfolk!

at nearly every rave in both Eastern and SE England there has been some sort of fight. A lot of people dont notice it as its isolated incidents between people what know one another rather than London where its full of robbing scum, but these events happen and they don't get resolved so they slowly escalate.

Even at the excellent philosophers fair some lad from the crew had his car smashed up by an enemy settling scores.

Actually what is happening as well as a gender imbalance is that older blokes are also not going as much any more unless they are actual old skool hippies/travellers or dealers or part of the crew.

I do go partying with a few girls & have met some quality raver chicks ,have definitely noticed they seem to latch on more to certain rigs tho ie the fluffier bumpkin ones as opposed to filthy squat techno rigs.. That said there is definitely too many blokes on the scene for my liking :hopeless: don't care wat people say fit fluro dread raver girls FTW!!raaa

still theres more men at partys than women, sure it used be 50/50 in the 90s.

the same is said for pubs & alot of non main streem clubs.

WTF I didnt start this thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was split from a thread on fleas to avoid confusion :laugh_at:

This sometimes happens with the drug forum as well if people are talking about two different drugs in the same thread (especially if there is a safety risk due to confusion)

next time I'll put a split thread warning in the subject.

still theres more men at partys than women, sure it used be 50/50 in the 90s.well spangles noticed it and he's one of the younger lot

he would be partying with exactly the same crowd I was when I lived in SE England, and some of the crews there are the most clued up in the area.

it is getting bad though, last year I noticed 3 fit young girls leave our local East Anglian crew because of all the politics and constant minor incidents of trouble.

another one is pregnant which I expect means both her and her partner will calm down soon and reduce their input which is of course fair enough - families come first - but they were contributing a lot of time and energy..

the same is said for pubs & alot of non main streem clubs.Pubs (especially round your way) have always been male dominated.

The impression I get from the girls I speak to is that they don't even particularly like the mainstream clubs, but at least there are bouncers and OB present (including many female officers) to deal with problems when they occur. many actually get bored with these and start staying in at weekends etc... and church is becoming popular again with younger people these days!
