hello, anybody off to sunrise festival this week?

im taking a solar powered mobile phone/camera/mp3 player charging stall but it needs a name!!!
the winning suggestion gets the glory of their name painted on the sign in slick baby blue paint wot i found in the cupboard, and FREE charging all week. yeah, it doesnt get much better than that.
i guess the name should include somthing relating to the sun...??
basically, suggest me some names before tonight so i can make loads of money at a festival while you are in work all week....:weee:
cheers, matt

provided the kit is insulated and doesn't short circuit there will be still be enough sunshine to charge the batteries, even if its pissing down otherwise. even now I think there is enough sunlight to charge a solar panel, but I don't have one handy to conduct an experiment and I'm not going out in the cold and wet anyway...

yeah i know. it just made me chuckle to think of anything sun related at the moment.
i used to have solar panels on my truck and they do charge in this light but not much. depends which ones you've got though.

well, the met weather thing says ''generally there will be a good deal of dry, bright and warm weather, and this will last into the coming weekend'' . right now its bright sunshine here (scotland....) so the batteries are charging very nicely.
the panel is amorphous, so significantly better in low light levels than poly or mono crystalline panels
charging 5 phones will take absolutley no more than 5 amps (this is what i will fuse the inverter at). the battery bank is 100ah- so potentially when fully charged i can run for 20 hours with no charge from the panel. (a rough estimate but you can see my point).
Anyway, on with the competition!

i had one on the roof of my trailer and in winter there bloody useless, used to get enough through on a winders day to runn a 5-15 w lamp for 30 mins of a night. in summer you could leave a 12v tv on all night and still have power for the morning...

Sunrise was a bit of a wash out. Had to queue on the A303 for about 3-4 hours before the police let people on site.. Then were told there was no festival as the river had burst its banks and the main arena didn't get signed off by health and safety. Were told we couldn't leave, and would have to camp in the car park until the next day. Proper missions, managed to get in and have a little party, but still a proper arse.. Heard a few bands had shown up and might do something on the friday, but had to leave to pick a mate up from hospital and there were not allowing re entry to the site. So we had to pack and set up, and now clean/dry the tent but had no proper party. Was looking forward to a bit of cosmic mind magic. At a loss for something to do now.. To an insult to injury, it was fucking hot all the way home yesterday, and I couldn't help thinking what might have been..

That's rubbish, man. They should have allowed re-entry considering all of the hassle caused by the weather. What a joke. :\

Got back from Sunrise @ 10 last night after 8 hour journey back to Wales, I was working up there on crew catering and the kitchen was under 2ft of water yesterday as I left! Honestly I just think it was not only down to the wonderful British summer (as per usual), I think that the organisation of the thing had a large part to play in it going tits up.. we heard all sorts - bands paid by cheque and cheques cancelled, no insurance etc etc ... don't know how much of that is true but I do know that we arrived on Tuesday and the place was churned up already and the dickheads driving tractors and forklifts across the site at 70mph didn't make the ground situation any better, and that was before the thunder storm on Thurs! There were queues to get in on Tues, but everyone was in good spirits and I had a ball but had to come back yest as was only working there for my ticket, and my tent was flooded :( .... gutted, should have been having a stomp to the Orb this evening..

On the upside though I have heard that Sunrise will go ahead this year (AGAIN!) ... apparently the Big Chill have said that they can have Sunrise on the same site / same weekend I think so all isn't lost for now!!:bounce_fl :bounce_g: :bounce_fl :bounce_g:

Latest news

Wednesday 4th June UPDATE: We are absolutely shattered, all of us. the whole team. We've been going at it day and night, a constant battle against the mud, the rain, and disappointment. that devastating clap of thunder, on thursday afternoon, will stay with us for the rest of our lives. One minute we were getting ready to welcome everyone in, the next we had no option but to send them all away. It was not until later that night, during a brief break in the rain that we had a horrible realisation. Not only was it over, it might never happen again. A mixture of optimism and a simple inability to pay the extortionate amount asked, meant that we had no cancellation insurance!

For a while, our hearts were darker than those clouds above our heads. Early next day though, the phone rang. It was the Big Chill. They came straight to the point. 'Would you like to do sunrise in one of our fields?'

We could hardly believe it. But it turned out to be an offer from the heart. The deal is simple and sincere. We get our own field right next to The Big Chill, probably with it's own separate entrance! the space is slightly smaller than our own site but there's still plenty of it. The Big Chill is BIG! There's room for us all to camp together, play together and party together.

Despite the fact that a Big chill ticket is £129, we are able to offer a straight swap (existing sunrise ticket holders only, offer not transferable). There may be a £2.50 administration charge, but nothing else. For your £2.50 you get to defy the laws of time and space by being in two places at once. You get to be at Sunrise and you get to be at the Big Chill too. You also get priority booking and a guaranteed discount on your ticket for Sunrise 2009. Plus you also get the chance to help us make good on a rash promise. During our first meeting with the big chill they asked us how much electric power we would need running to our field, we looked at each other and then back at our would be host. 'how about none at all?' we said. 'Suppose we do the whole thing on sun and wind power?' A stunned silence. It hadn't dawned on them that someone might contemplate running an entire event on alternative technology. There was a stunned silence on our part too. Could we really do this? could we kick our bio-diesel habit? We're still not sure but we are going to try. We're also bringing our own internationally acclaimed Eco Loos.

What else will we be bringing? We cant tell you yet. We've only just got off the field and some of us are still on it, working hard to take down the last of those soaking marquees and tidy up the land. Please give us a chance to get our breath back and get some sleep. Meanwhile, accept no substitute. Several festivals have already started to hover over our misfortune At least One festival has already announced they will 'Honor' Sunrise tickets. What they mean is 'why not cash in your ticket and buy one of ours instead?'

Just for the record Sunrise will be at the big chill this year and nowhere else. If you want to support us and if you believe in what we do - please reach deep into your pockets and find that £2.50! :)

If you simply can't make Aug 1-3 because you are going on holiday, well, we understand, but rather than a refund, why not request a ticket to sunrise 09, you'll be saving money on next year's price and you'll be helping us greatly also

I still managed to have a quality time. feel like total shit now tho.

that must be a hugh relief getting the Big Chill's support. I've been to the last two Big Chills and found it to be a great festival...got put off by other bigger hectic events. Its a really relaxed, non threatening atmosphere as well

The only negative were the loos which not as bad as other festivals were still ugh! Please replace them with yours...dont understand why other festivals have not figured this out

will the orb be playing??

I dont have anything to do with sunrise, was just passing on the news from their website...

If you bought a Sunrise ticket, you can now directly swap it for a ticket to be part of “Sunrise at the Big Chill.” Not only do you get to be at BOTH events, you get a discount on Sunrise 2009. If you can’t come on August 1-3, you can swap your ticket, instead, for a full Sunrise 09 ticket.. If you love us and you want to save the festival, please swap your ticket for one or the other. Please don’t claim a refund unless you absolutely have to. We had to use most of the ticket money to put the festival on. We had to use the rest to close it down so every refund request we get takes us deeper into a horrible financial hole. Full details of the amazing swap offer will follow as soon as we get the mud off our boots!

Big chill/sunrise here i come! think its gonna work out as 3 festivals for the price of one now cant really say fairer than that! esp if you compare it to the joke that was antiworld...
