Firstly.

I'm sober, why's this in the drugs section?

Because when you've been mostly awake for over 4/5days the effects are very similar to being on drugs and your bodys wanting to shut down and your mind won't let it.

We all know this.

I've played with staying awake for a long time before in the past so i'm aware that if it goes over a full week, i'll start to see things and general other nasties.

I have a doctors appointment early in the morning tomorrow so am trying to tire myself out for a hefty dose of sleep tonight.

Before you all scream "this medication/that medication" at me, my mind's in no way fit for that.

I've tried chamomile/lavender/the most boring monotone music i can find/even a cold carlsberg

:yakk:

Help a sista out?

If you can manage it go for a run or do some sort of exercise. Lifting weights and doing a shitload of situps knocks me out when i can't sleep. Try this next time you cannae sleep! Good luck

Thanks Dr Bunsen for making my erratic ramblings more readable

I still havn't slept but i've figured i might aswell go with it for a while until i can find the right medication that works for me.

Thanks for all the replys anyway, exactly what i was looking for

I've decided to go to a farm in a small village in Cheshire this weekend and help out there for a wee while, big open spaces to chill me out, and interesting farm animals to amuse me

It's like they say, what's one year to sort your head out compared to the rest of your life, or something and other ^_^

dont always turn to prescription meds to try and deal with probs getting to sleep ...

for one there are herbal products which do actually work, go into your local holland and barrett ... ask a member of staff and get directed to the sleep bit ... after theyve shown you them your ok for help and get 'em to fook off.

there should be a product call 'valerina' basically a mix of the valerian root and hops extract ... now none of these products are as strong as prescription meds but this one will give you a hand to calm down to rest ... i used it when i was signed off work with sleep dep, anxiety and depression ... works well ...

now, you have 4 of these (the box says an hour but an hour and a half is better) before bed ... dont watch t.v or anything, read a book or the best is to have a conversation with someone ... sounds weird but it works ...

now since taking these ive been on amitriptyline, used to help sleep and to be honest i found the sleep from taking the herbal stuff was much more beneficial apose to the chemical stuff which knocks you out and keeps you drowsy till midday the day after.

as a few have mentioned on here excercise is crucial, half an hour a day, even if its just walking the shops it helps.

diet is crucial, have your '5 a day' etc and plenty of fruit and veg. low alcohol intake, few units a day. if you drink coffee or tea (any caffienated drinks) dont have any after 5pm ...

theres loads you can do to try and helps yourself ...

hope some of these ramblings have helped ...

Can't see if anyone has mentioned Melatonin. Apparently it's the sleep hormone. It's also legal, works really well and cheap on ebay.

Any ramblings is always helpfull raaa

I can completely relate to anxiety, depression and of course insomnia.

I've had all these for well over 4/5 years now but i stupidly opted for the "get on with it" approach.

For anyone who happens to read this don't do that, it will catch up with you in the long run, seriously.

I've been doing a fountain load of thinking (hard not to) and have identified in my own mind why it's come on this strong now and what i have to do for myself.

All advise and wise words are on board from all of you, and in action:obey: lol

Is everything ok in your life otherwise Sini? Perhaps daytime stress is whats stopping you from switching off at night?

Of course what would I know. I sleep too much not too little. :bounce_fl

Tbh, i'm just holding on until the weekend. I have Caerwys to look forward to, i've never been there before and it'll be a huge culture change from the Manchester city life.
It's what my head needs, that and a Doctor :laugh_at:

I don't want to make this into a hiiiiiiiuge thread so i'll leave it here.

Cheers my dears
