Just been offered a job today in warehouse for a company that makes those cards u put in sky boxes, but first they gotta do a security check to see I ain't been in trouble with the police (which I have) before I start, anyone know what this covers? Not sure if I'll pass coz have been given cautions / final warning for drugs twice, 2 X criminal damage & theft, but I've never been to court and given a conviction... Any ideas??

if it doesn't specifically say declare cautions you do not have to declare them.

I worked in the Civil Service for a central Government Department for 4 years, despite having cautions and being known to the local cops. (the Civil Service can get access to an individuals PNC record without going via the CRB)

for a private company to get anything else on you they usually need to go via CRB and this is done after you have been offered the job and for certain positions only (such as working with kids or dealing with large amounts of money or life/safety critical occupations),

They will ask for various bits of ID from you which they need to show to the Govt before they can get the info because of data protection laws.

private security firms can often use old newspaper archives to bypass the privacy/spent convictions laws, but cautions aren't recorded in the media (particularly for juveniles).

TBH it seems that all the place you are applying for wants to know is that you are honest and won't rob them.

a policeman when cautioning me said not to say that i had a caution unless it was for a government type job. unless convicted

normaly it is only convictions that they will look for (if they even bother) .. but as they say they are checking then it will most likly be a conviction that will lose you the job ... if they ask "have you any criminal convictions" ..they meens have you been to court, been charged and sentanced for any offence .... this could be failing to pay a parking ticket or murder .... this does not inclued cautions or other such slaps on the wrist that don't envolve you going to court and actualy getting done for some thing ... (as GL sais) unless they specificaly ask you to "declare" that you have been cautioned ect.

Not even all govt jobs make you declare cautions (probably wouldn't have got mine if that were the case!). The place I work today (in the private sector) knows about my cautions but they are not an issue to my employers as I am otherwise trustworthy.

I've also been told by many senior civil service managers that unless what you have done is totally against the ethos of the department/agency (such as major theft/dishonesty), or you have been a violent thug or a feckless junkie, they are not bothered about minor indiscretions in your past life.

Most companies (public or private) just want to get some sort of reassurance that you won't nick loads of stuff from them, nor beat up a customer or work colleague during a bad day.

the application form must say whether they are asking for convictions or for convictions and cautions

if you have been fined, given probation, community service, jail time or some other punishment, that is a conviction

a caution or being bound over by a magistrate is not a criminal record; cautions will only show on enhanced CRB checks... as GL says, these are only used when working with children or vulnerable adults or in 'sensitive' jobs

Thanks for the response seems all good, I'd just got a bit worried coz in the interview she said they'd done a check on someone else and it turned out they "had drug problems" so couldn't employ them n then started questioning me on drugs etc. if I'd been in trouble with the police (sat there lying through my teeth...) Thought it wouldn't look too good if they then found I'd been nicked a few times, but I didn't say anything because as said legally its only convictions that need to be declared

Fingers crossed start work on Monday!

Shift work though, n getting up at 5AM when I'm used to bein up all night & sleeping all day is not the one:cry:

when i started my job they actually asked if i had any cautions and convictions. i thought it would be best to tell the truth and owned up to my caution. I got the job fine. I was worried about other times tho when i had been arrested & put on bail for months luckily that never made it to court & didnt show up on my crb check!

Think with most businesses they are looking for current convictions [which indicate an existing problem] and fraud convictions [which will make a lot of employers think twice ]

Congratulations spangle raaa

Cheers! Pretty chuffed tis the first bit of proper work in nearly a year, can't wait till first payday..

I think the main problem why the did the security check is coz loadsa people try n rob the sky viewing cards they make (did think about it lol but apparently they prosecute everyone and theyr not even worth anything coz they dont work yet)

6 months?! Highly doubt I'll (manage to) stay there that long! Feels good to be working but the work itself so far is boring as fuck today I put 40,000 letters with new cards in boxes to be sent off.... Gonna try last a couple of weeks n then the agency can get me a better job.

And I reckon I am gonna find a way to get those cards workin

Don't worry about it, think of the ££'s.

I once worked at a place putting red peppers in bags 8 hours a day, 6 days a week for £5 an hour:yakk:

Well, I'd take a guess that you would like a card, me too and about 60% at least of PV. Say a tenner a card, thats pretty good money.

Oh, you said how many hours!!
