View Full Version : MSN trojan doing the rounds
The file asks you to open a picture and see if its a picture of you AFAIK and has your email address in it too.
DONT CLICK ON THE LINK !!!
It opens a file and loads a trojan into your MSN which is causing some serious problems and is forwarding itself to everyone in the address book :hopeless:
Uses up a lot of bandwidth and is a right pest everytime someone new gets infected......
The only things that pick it up so far are AdAware and XSoftSpy

i ran avg like 20 times to clean my laptop not seen it since need to take it to my uncles shop really for him to check it
With AVG if you turn off the system restore and then run AVG. After that clear the vault [delete the contents]
Run AVG again and check to be sure but that should be it

Does anyone know if this affects Trillian? I use Trillian for all my IM's and I havent come accross it yet.

if someone with msn gets the virus and sends it to you then it will still show up on trillian so dont click it!
if you do click it then it probably wont send itself to your contacts cos its not programed to work with trillian (i think) but itl still be running on your pc and messing things up like it normaly would.

Well my brother has fixed me laptop and now theres no audio non whatsoever, he's stumped as am i and i've got no idea how to fix it  everything else is fine but when you boot it up a message comes up saying no audio file detected. I'm quite an Amish when it comes to computers, might have to send it in to be repaired:hopeless:

that sounds like it could be the audio driver thats been deleted or corupted.
google your soundcard manufacturers website and download the latest driver and install it.
you can find your soundcard info by right clicking on the 'my computer' icon then click 'manage' then click 'device manager' on the list then look on the 'sound, video and game controllers' list for your card name. if there is an entry with a yellow question mark or 'unknown' next to it then thats probably the card thats not working. double click it and look through the window that pops up for the manufacturer

I would suggest that you get Acronis True Image
http://www.acronis.co.uk/promo/ATI/ati11home-001.html?source=uk_google&ad=ati&gclid=CODIvIvnuZECFRMXQgodrxdVCg
This creates a complete backup of your PC or laptop.
I use this, so that if anything goes wrong - you can simply re-install the last clean working image you have saved. I usually create a backup image once a month.
And I'd also suggest turning OFF system restore as it's rubbish and just uses up disk space - and Trojans / viruses normally reside there, so even if you find them on your C:/ drive and delete them - they can reappear.
:satisfied
