ok so I seem to have found myself is somewhat of a pickle....I thought it would be a good idea to offer to cook christmas dinner for me and the boyfriend this year as neither of us really have a family we can go to....then we discussed it and thought it would be a nice idea to invite some of our friends who are in the same boat....now it would seem there are 10+ guests coming for christmas dinner.....the idea of this many poeple turning up for christmas dinner when i have never cooked it before is now a little daunting.....does anyone have any tips or ideas for what i should be cooking,,,,,,have to do veggie and meat.....
thanks:laugh_at: :laugh_at: :laugh_at:

The only problem i can see you having is cooking space, you should get someone to help you who has an idea what theya re doing as you are going to have to be good with timing everything to make the most of what you will find to be a limited space.
Best of luck to you, why not book a meal somewhere locally? yeah you pay more but it is so much easier and well worth the money.

I have a friend who lives in the flat above mine so an extra kitchen will be available....
The idea of us having Christmas at mine was so we could make it like a family christmas as most of the poeple coming cant really have that...i reckon it will all go ok....failing that i reckon we can all survive on christmas pud and alcohol if we have to!!

Yea ive eaten out for a couple of christmas's, was pretty good and enjoyed myself, well worth a thought anyway!
Hehehe - what an ambitious offer that was :group_hug
Vegewise are you looking at vegetarians or the hardcore vegan kind? this will affect what you can cook them so find out what they dont eat as every vegetarian has their own wee foibles... find out and come back to us
How many carnivores are there going to be? hard to help you out with so little info :groucho:
and how big is your oven/s?

It might be a good idea to get everyone together one night before hand - all decide what you all would like to eat and each person bring a 'dish' so it's not all left up to you!
share the responsibility around

there will be 10 poeple eating.....3 of them veggie!! I have two average sized gas ovens and two microwaves available....I asked one of the vegitarians to hekp cook now so im sure it will be ok on that front....no vegans which is lucky......
i think we will all have a great day.....im actually looking forward to christmas for once!!
:)
my tip would be to organise someone [not you] to be responsible for the washing up :groucho:

right for the carnivores, dont over cook the meat, and dont listen to delia smith, cos she always makes the meat cry, do it on a really low temp, like about 100- 120 and cover it with silver foil, and cook it for about 5 hours, this will make the meat succulent, u need to put wine, and a couple more ingrediants in the bottom, so it almost oven steams it, this will trap the moisture, my bros gf came over last christmas, my mum did nut roast it was really good with gravy, maybe get someoe else to do the veggie side

When i used to be a chef all i wanted to do was drag the veggies out the back and shoot them with the landlords 12 bore,
Shame i couldn't do it and get away with it.
(no offence ment to the vegtables on PV) :biggreen:
