Party Vibe is almost 10 years old now and it's always been about freedom of information rather than elitism or secrecy but I've set up a private forum today and made it subscribers and staff only in order to give more back to the kind people who've supported us over the years. The aim here is to create an area where they can relax and talk privately without worrying about addressing the forum or the internet...

The full list of subscriber benefits:

1. Access to our subscribers only forum
2. Video avatars
3. No banner advertisements
4. Post party advertisements for free
5. Access to 'Who's Online?' (see what other members are doing)
6. Special username color
7. Extra storage for attachments (flyers, pictures, etc...)
8. Increased private messaging ability (more storage, recipients, etc...)
9. Invisibility from other users if required
10. And the knowledge you're helping a good cause...

Becoming a subscriber:

And remember it's your donations that keep this web site running so please consider making a contribution...

to be honest i dont really like the idea, as it gives me a kind of exclusive feeling as this IS a peace and love type forum and we'd hafta pay, its kinda like a VIP section. what we SHOULD do is have a private forum for these 'tender subjects' which only well known members get access to :bounce_fl considering OB could just pay to become a subscriber anyway... dunno about the whole subscribing thing, i guess its cool but it gives me the vibe of a free party forum that aint free :weee: just my opinion i guess

This place is expensive to run, I wish it wasn't but it is. So because it isn't fair for me to pay it all (and I've given a lot over the years). I have to ask for donations, sell advertising and subscriptions which mean giving something back. It's give and take you understand. So unless you or anyone else want to pay to keep it free I don't see an alternative...

Yep I see the subscribers/staff only forum part as a nice little thank you from the Doc,

Its only a very small part of the site, anyway the cost of subscribing is really reasonable.

Cant always take take take :biggreen:

I can understand why younger people / those with less money are concerned but its not going to be like people would be missing out on much. its just a gesture for those who are able to support the site, the rest of the forum remains open to all.

The whole ethos of the original internet works on people pooling resources. Unfortunately we don't have the

considering OB could just pay to become a subscriber anyway...

realistically there is no safe haven for doing illegal stuff on the net, it is under surveillance like any other telecoms network.

That said, if/when a cop tries this it would mean a senior officer would have had to authorise the spending of public money on the subscription, and to access data where there is no clear evidence of serious criminal activity .

Under British/European law, this throws up all sorts of potential legal/human rights issues.
