Does anyone remember being given this as a small child?

I remember getting it from about 1974-1979 or so, came in small bottles and was something to do with the NHS...

it was given as a sort of "treat" for enduring the baby/child clinic, you would be carted into some drab NHS facility - they'd line up all the kids and then some nurse would weigh you and check your height etc and poke/prod you like these sort of matron type nurses did in those days.

and often there weren't even any toys or books in the clinic but all sorts of scarey govt posters about rabies and contamination etc that would give you nightmares when you are 5...

It was supposed to be very good for you as a source of vitamin C, although I bet nowadays there would be complaints over the sugar levels.

Your mum would usually be given a few bottles to take home as well - and would give this to you at winter to protect against colds, and maybe to keep us all healthy in case the Soviets tried to invade or something like that..

I expect half the board has no idea what I'm on about but I think it was handed out by the NHS until 1981 or so (after then it was easier for kids to get fresh fruit and other sources of vitamin C)..

nah thats exactly the same stuff, apparently all the rosehips were once sent to Newcastle and made into the syrup there in some big old factory and this carried on until the 1980s..

nowadays people make their own rosehip syrup (or you can buy it from online stores that sell "modern retro" type stuff), I am actually tempted to get some :laugh_at:

:laugh_at: :laugh_at: :laugh_at: good protection against those commie bastards!

You're not alone GL, i have dim memories of the stuff, along with being given spoonfuls of a black tar like substance that stuck to the spoon like glue but was nice in a wierd kinda way (can't remember what it was tho, u?)

The stuff I really hated was the evil fishy cod liver oil :yakk:

and good old kaolin an morph, taken purely for medicinal purposes at that point!
