no change here from BT DNS (which can be fairly quick to update)

you're not behind any sort of proxy server or smart router/firewall by any chance? "transparent cached proxies" are often put in at ISPs without your knowledge to cache popular sites and save bandwidth, NTL/Virgin or whatever they are called today are well known for doing this,

no one notices they are there until they go pear shaped..

you're both in the same region of the country; its possible all your broadband connections end up in the same datacentre (despite being two different ISPs) and the ISPs have decided to share the DNS server functions...
