Spanish fashion retailers are going to change their clothing sizes for women and bring in bigger shop mannequins.
It is part of a government initiative which aims to reduce girls’ anxiety over body image.
More than 8,000 women will be measured and sizes will be standardised.
Spain also banned ultra-thin models on the catwalk during Madrid fashion week last September. Brazil has now followed suit, launching a campaign to ban underage, underweight models from its catwalks.
Should other countries follow Spain?
Can the size of shop mannequins affect girls’ self esteem? :omg::omg::omg:
I think they should - fashion models are almost nonexistent [I used to know one when I was younger and if she turned sideways behind a post she almost vanished ]
Its very frustrating to go shopping with women too because none of the stores have the same standard sizes which is crazy - a size 10 in one shop can be a 14 in another and a small somewhere else. [AAAARRRGH]
Plus most UK stores have sizes based on the women and men of the 1960s [so they are all too short and small] and modern British humans end up wearing large and xlarge just to get the length of trouser or shirt back which is a distorted view of their size to start with [they are normal modern sizes after all]

I know that I have big problems with buying pants there are long enough on the legs..
So when I finally find some I usuall buy 2-3 pair, wich result in people dont think i change clothes :hopeless::hopeless:
:groucho:
Hey Angel, you should come and make some shopping in France...
The sizes have been recently re-standardized with the actual people sizes(2 years ago if I remember well). But it ain't change ainything about the pain of shopping with a girl...:groucho:
As I don't like shopping,I've find a solution:I go two times a years to Carhartt and showing my actual clothes,I just say :"Gimme the same, but clean,please"...

I think the Spanish have a good idea there - too many girls (and even some blokes!) are constantly worrying about weight and their appearance
Incidentally cycling jackets and other outdoor gear often seems to have this size anomaly for both men and women..

:laugh_at: most of my clothes come from the discount stores like Primark/Lidl/Aldi - I can't be bothered with hunting around for labels etc (particularly when I spend a lot of time in muddy fields/warehouses and even at work am usually often doing manual stuff like installing hardware and running cables)

I must say I choose Carhartt brand 'cause it's very strong, and last me at least one year of hardcore everyday using. After the year, they become workwear(I try to be an elegant manual worker ).The problem with cheap clothes is that I destroy them very quickly;so it does cost me more than wearing quality clothes...
(I'll stop here,don't want PV becoming a hype/fashion site : ) )

Exactly.
Most of us lads prefer girls with a bit of a figure on them, not stick-insects who look like they're smack/crack heads!

Good idea
I was with my neice and some of her friends (8 - 9 years old) at the weekend (6 girls - livng hell I tell ya)
but it was interesting but frightening listening to them talking about clothes / make up / weight...........
I dont think I had any conversations like this till I was around 15 even , they are being influenced at such a young age no wonder it is so problematic!!:hopeless:
:scared: :scared: :scared:
Thats awfully young - is this due to watch they watch and read or a reflection of the adults around them being weight obsessed? [kids pick this stuff up very quickly - what my toddler can remember about stuff I didnt realise had been overheard is terrifying]

Well I was worried to see one had 'Kate and Ashleen'
?is that right - some american girls book -
basically a Trinny and suzanna what not to wear but for adolescents i'm guessing and is 9!!!
and my neice could easily be influenced by my sister who has become obsessed with loosing weight since her 3rd child, however she is doing it propperly by going walking and the gym, healthy food etc but I do know she goes on about it
the other kids? dont know them to comment :hopeless:

I agree with April - i too am a size 8 who's tried absolutely everything to put on weight without success. People don't understand how hurtful it is to hear comments such as "skinny bitch"; "snap in half" and a lot worse and how it can affect our self esteem. I was ruthlessly bullied in school due to my weight and now in the grown up world i don't understand the double standard of how its totally acceptable for people to make derrogatory comments to people who are slim whilst it's unacceptable to do the same to people who have a few extra pounds. Shouldn't people be treated the same no matter what their size?

This hypocrisy runs hidden throughout society and I had occasion to 'enjoy' it at first hand when on two separate occasions I was told: on one I needed to lose weight and on the other i was too thin - I was wearing the same clothes and weighed the same on both occasions by some freak coincidence but my weight obsessed relative was absolutely adamant about one of the extremes on each occasion :you_crazy:you_crazy:you_crazy:you_crazy
I dont get it anyway - if I listened to those mad charts my Dr had I would be almost 15 kg lighter than I am at over 6 feet tall [and I look like an emaciated refugee at that weight as I have had occasion to find out once when I was very ill]
Having said that there is a weight beyond which I dont go as it causes my back to ache constantly and I feel lethargic.
Lets hear it for being a good weight for our heights and bone structures and being happy with our weight as it is raaaraaaraaa
Some folk are naturally thin and some are not - so what? As long as they are happy and not morbidly obese [melon shaped with limbs attached] lets leave them to it :weee: Its none of our business

Nice one Raj, its good to know there's others with the same attitude. I also went thru a period of being chronicaly underweight due to illness. Now i couldn't care less as long as i'm healthy.

Its alot easier to sell stuff to people if you make them unhappy and neurotic. We are all trained from a young age, by advertising, to feel unhappy with ourselves, so that people can sell us shit to make ourselves feel better, imho. When people are distressed, they tend not to quibble about price.
I think Oliver James has got a book out called 'Affluenza', which basically says that our materialistic culture is driving us mad! and i think he has a point.
I quite like skinny tho, cos i'm skinny myself. And not too tall either, cause looking up to a girl is unsettling:wink: especially if they have a violent streak...

straight up rava. overly skinny chicks dont do it for me.
why dont the media glamorise realism for a change.
