There is a debate going on..

Should they show the last documentary he was shooting when he died ?

as long as they do not show the points where he was actually killed (TBH I don't think any countries ministry of communications would permit this to be broadcast though) I don't see why the rest of the film should not be shown.

IMO the whole reason for him risking his life on many occasions would be to make these films to show the world all these wild creatures....

Another situation where this can happen in sport. Many people are killed or injured each year in accidents; but the TV companies still show these sports (although minus the goriest bits).

the production company has to by law (possibly civil/contract law though)

any principal talent in a TV or movie production has to sign a release form or contract so their contribution can be used in the project.

When the persons are no longer alive (such as when they make those "best of 1970s TV" shows as many actors have now died) it is then the decision of the deceased persons' estate whether or not to permit the material to be used.

I didn't agree with all of the chaps methods (or some of the politicians he supported) - but that was what the media market wanted. Lots of the wildlife presenters/TV naturalists have financial interests in zoos and safari parks; but as I said in the zoo thread each such institution should be judged on its own merits...

ITV used to make excellent wildlife films up at Norwich (survival Anglia) but closed this all down because our dumbed down population didn't want to watch "boring" footage of animals alone and some chap doing a voicover, they wanted more "action")

There's still the matter of respect for another human. I don't think much of many of the gangsta rappers/UKG artists who have got shot and TBH I reckon a few did deserve what they got, but don't download pics of the crime scene/autopsy pics for entertainment...

From what I understood at the time his family wanted it to be shown and I agree with that. Too much of of the subject of death is kept behind closed doors, made a taboo subject. I don't see anything wrong with the subject of death and dying being a little more accessable and commonplace and I say that as someone that has seen her fair share.

Actually, i think you make a good point here. Hadn't really thought about him as an exploiter. You do have a right to your opinion - especially seen as it has been asked.
