hello peeps,
Nonny here, working in Karlovy Vary in the lovely Czech Republic.
Czech Tek is happening here again this year, only about ten miles from me, all free, all legal, all fun, all techno.
On the equivalent of MOD land near Ostrov in West Bohemia with full permission and licenses or so my techno loving students tell me.
28th July till whenever in August.
Would love to see ya all here but me an Prole are doing a flipping summer school in flipping Suffolk all July... doh!
Nonny
will post updates as i hear 'em

Thanks for this. Please post as much info as possible - both good and bad news; including anything such as permitted routes, any limitations on numbers, whether there will be on-site Police presence (i.e like FRtek this year)
2005 was supposed to be "free, legal and fun"; the organisers had legaly rented the field, but the cops still rinsed it and the wider CZ population (or at least the richer half) seemed to accept this level of brutality (weren't all charges against cops dropped after the fuss had blown over?)
That said ISTR reading new laws were passed which were quite lenient compared to Britain or other countries and basically permitted quite large raves; and perhaps the people of CZ are pragmatic enough to realise the scene won't go away..
Would love to see ya all here but me an Prole are doing a flippin summer school in flippin Suffolk all July.....doh

unlucky; some areas here remind me even more of the USSR in its last days than Reading did.
out of curiosity what's this all about? teaching new Euro-workers English or something like that?

hello it's Nonny again,
couple of websites up.. bits in english

re last year's czechtek... we teach general English to all sorts of people here from high skool studes to millionaire golf club owners. Please don't believe what u hear about the public reaction here to the brutal policing of last years event... just because politicians connived to let the police off, the police they ordered in... all our students and friends here from every section of Czech society are really really unhappy about what went down. They're looking forward to a better tek this summer. techno parties aren't seen as a threat by any "ordinary" people here except Paroubek the slimy perma tanned prime minister who's probably going to be voted out on June 4th ...
as far as we know it is in West Bohemia not far from the German border, east of Karlovy Vary which is a well known spa town where we live, near the small town of Ostrov on the Ohre river. There are plenty of coaches going to Karlovy Vary from Prague, try the Letuska bus that goes via Prague airport. U can train or bus it to Ostrov from KV.
Will keep u posted
love

Thanks for this... hope it all goes well this year...
I like the big warning note at the bottom
DO NOT EXPLORE MILITARY AREA
Although it seems obvious to sober people; ravers do like to explore stuff.
People don't realise how fragile Europe's stability is and how the Cold War is still being fought to an extent; and that those on guard duty at military bases are taught to be wary of strangers. Often guard duty is done by some frightened lad in his teens who has a loaded pistol or rifle...
there is also plenty of UXO[1] in such places (some poor bastard is supposed to pick it up afterwards but it doesn't always happen).
[1] UXO = unexploded ordnance

CzechTek 2006 to be Held Within the HradiÅ¡tÄ Military Region
The Czech techno music festival 2006 will be held within the training grounds of the HradiÅ¡tÄ Military Region, western Bohemia, in July.
Following an initiative by Minister of Defence of the CR Karel Kühnl, the CzechTech 2006, the free techno music festival, will be held on an area of more than 51 hectares ( about 0.2 square mile/5.5 million square feet ), at a location normally used only for military training and exercises.
The spokesman for the Defence Minister, Andrej ÄOÃrtek, announced the agreement regarding the lease of the military area, which was signed on the 14 June 2006 between the Ministry of Defence of the CR and the
Association of Czech Sound Systems - ALIANCE 23, in Pilsen, western Bohemia.
The lease agreement for the CzechTek 2006 was concluded for the period of 24 July to 7 August 2006. The major part of the festival traditionally takes place during the last weekend of July.
The ALIANCE -23 association is obliged, according to the agreement, to provide for organisation, mobile toilets, medical support, and appropriate cleaning of the area upon the conclusion of the festival.

what is the bird on that flyer? does it have any significance (is it common in the area where the party is) or was it just put there as a random thing for the flyer?

This year, czechtek is going to take place at the edge of military area Hradiště alias Doupovské hory (Doupovské Mountains) from 28.7.. The land has been properly hired and is about 70 Ha large , which is completely sufficient. It si located near point coordinates 50° 15´ 24“ of northern latitude and 13° 13´ 23“ of eastern longitude. It is possible to enter the area from adjoining roads, but we recommend so called "old tank road ", which will be free for use and marked from Wednesday . This road can be reached from road no.226 between Podbořany and Vroutek or from Road no.221 between Podbořany and Nepomyšl. You can help finance the event by buying stickers at venue of teknival. All non-tekno traders and stands will be lynched , esposed and dishonoured at crack of dawn.

Yeah, there was about 160 soundsystems on 74 stages, but most of them were from Czech republic....bad luck, only 11 systems were from foreign countries:( In first 3 days there was dancing about 40 000 people and day past day the number was decreasing.....I have most prefered the stages of Shamanic ss, Oktekk, Strahov, NSK and off course Metro ss.....sorry, but i prefer big sounds:wave: ...but small stages were playing so good.....what I have to say...some link to photos: http://www.hypno.cz/czechtek06/ ...see you next yearraaa

seems like a good event - I think some of my friends from England are in one of the photographs ;)
I read some "normal media" reports from google (in English) but I wasn't sure of them
http://www.praguemonitor.com/ctk/?story_id=w37859i20060731;story=CzechTek-rave-slowly-ends-so-far-without-major-troubles
http://www.ceskenoviny.cz/news/index_view.php?id=201811
One said the event was good but there were a lot of medical problems - (surely not that many people broke arms and legs?) another said there was crime such as cars being stolen/broken into, thefts from tents and an alleged rape.
apparently locals also moaned about the traffic jams.
But this is no worse a level of crime / accidents / incidents than you would get in a festival in England.

Yep - Another Fatty all round. Big props to the huge Strahof rig for the banging tekno and the Pan Dam boys for a bit of dirty deep house. I'm totaly biased but the Brighton-Bristol link up was clearly the best sounding rig if not quite the best looking one. Hadda right old laugh with Ed Cox and his ClownCore set and The Big Bird with his Walk like and Egiptian and Scummy Man remixes.
Those Loony Bins belonged to a Brighton mob who kinda go by the name of Turbo Twats but the owner just likes fucking big speakers so dosn't really care about the name.
The Laser was from the chaps at quantek (http://www.quantekpro.co.uk/)if anyone wants to hire the fucker - shame they run out of smoke fluid and could only do green light but it still looked fucking wicked not that I'm biased about that eather.
Max props to the guys I met from (I think) Manchester who came down on their own - I was with about 30 people and it was still fucking hectic. Hope you managed to hook up with someone to take you to ItalyTek.
Loads of my mates managed to make the papers - bit gutted I didn't as I was poncing about in a silver body-suit that left nothing to the imagination.
Had a right good night out in Prauge at the Cross Club which is without doubt the best fucking night-club in the world. Will post sum pictures when I can be bothered as its too hard to describe the inside.
Only downer was the fact it was a legal site and we didn't get the thrill of the chase finding the place

been replying to this on your clown-core thread but what the hell..
I think maybe because its a licenced event now rather than a teknival it kept the 'hardcore' (whoever they are) away. its like the choice between a free party and an (admittedly) free festival. Getting permision from those in charge(!) sort of kills the vibe. There were a lot of what I would call 'tourists' there this year and I know its a bit elitest to say this I don't want it turning into just another destination for the 18 to 30's crowd!

not sure about this; particularly from our country (Britain). Just to leave your country and spend a whole week raving is hardcore for a lot of people, and many of my friends did it. Most of my British friends who went last year went this year as well and took rigs - perhaps there were "not as many" UK rigs as the UK crews pooled resources and created one or two big stages, which is what tends to happen these days?
I nearly went myself but I had the choice between this summer party season and a long term job offer (after my last employer downsized) so had to follow the money... (otherwise I would be unemployed now)

what alternative did they have; when last year the police (ostensibly acting on the wishes of the more powerful section of society) were prepared to use deadly force?
I think its amazing that firstly the CZ ministry of defence actually allowed this event, that they only charged £600 and that secondly the cops (nor the soldiers) did not create all sorts of hassle like searching people etc..
According to the paper a lot of normal people/locals went because they know "policie" would not cause incidents. If it means they accept the scene and these events then I can't see the problem. they have a right to attend these events to; everyone was a "normal person" once ;)
Clubs and raves are now the "club 18 30" extreme lifestyle for the new generation ; IMO this scene stopped being a "secret" years ago....

oh - don't get me wrong - I totaly agree with you and will be back next year. Its still a mad mission getting down there, crossing borders and dodging cops. What I have noticed with a lot of European systems is that free parties are a lot more political than ones in the UK are now. Its a kind of a party/protest to a lot of people which you don't find so much over here (some mates of mine do still hand out anarchist propaganda at parties) and I do think they see getting pemision as selling out. Its like with the Anti-French Tek parties earler on in the year. I can understand where there comming from - the "Whos streets? Our Streets!" mind-set
I was part of one of the UK link-ups (the fat sounding one ) and can confirm there were a lot less UK systems this year.

I also don't think the Czech govenment (rather than the police) had any choice about letting it go this year - there were MASSIVE protests in Prauge after last year - business types on the tube saying how much they supported us which is something you'd never get over here

did you get any idea why this is so? From looking at the "normal" media of CZ it seemed the country was divided in half but with a slight majority saying that the Police action was excessive..

We stayed on a campsite for a few days after the Tek in a small town in the south. Got chatting to the owner who was in his 60's about it and he was saying that when he was our age he was forbidden to listen to rock-and-roll and drew parallels with what happend last year - he was telling us how he'd never thought he'd live to see the day when jerry lee lewes played in Prauge!
The Czech's had been under someone elses thumb for years until the velvet revoulution which started of with the police attacking students and last year triggered a lot of deep and painful emotions with the older population. I'd take that 50/50 split with a big pinch of salt - everybody and I mean everybody I saw on those couple of days last year supported us.
