lots of people have already gone down for their involvement in the party scene - some for licensing violations, others for drugs - some even just for traffic offences (some mates of mine never had full driving license but didn't stop them providing rave transport - at least until they got caught!)

most people come through it but even a short stretch fucks up your life in other ways, not exactly easy to get a job afterwards or stay close to your family unless you have very understanding people close to you...

As for fighting the cops I can understand why it happened in this case, but think about what happens to the travellers - they didn't and probably still don't take any shit off the cops; but now when the cops want a site turned over its full on armed response these days as well as riot squad..

i liked this picture, from the recent riots in Mexico where police arrested some street vendors for trading without a permit and the whole town turned out in support of the vendors against police corruption / oppression

we have it very fuckin easy in this country TBH and rarely stand together when it really matters

true, but could you ever envisage locals in many areas ever coming out in support of ravers in an area that gets rinsed bare when there are houses and businesses nearby?

same thing happened with the Ridgeway - sometimes riot cops cracked heads; other times they ended up in a similar situation to the pic you posted. Also Bristol and in Norwich city venues

people tried to bundle cops as well or pelt them in loads of rave areas..

I do feel sorry for the younger ravers as they are carrying the can for previous generations excesses as well, but this sort of malarkey has gone on for 16 years now (mind you I reckon only a country like Britain would have tolerated this for so long)

Funnily enough i saw this happen to a wpc in town last year. Some chav had nicked a mobile and when they collared him he butted her male partner and tried to start on her. she panicked and set it off in her own face from about four inches from her nose. I fucking fell about nearly pissed my pants. The chav ran for it but got jumped on by some fucking do gooder. but still, both coppers were fucked ambulances and everything. Please note i dont really condone violence of any sort but having had run ins with arsehole bullyboy rozzers i tend to be short of sympathy for them.

There's been shit like this going down for a lot more than 16 years, its just that the 'rave' scene really started then.
Makes the blood boil! Well done that crowd but experience say play along, save the rig getting taken, people getting hurt, at the end of the day they did manage to party just down the road.

indeed. I expect quite a few people here are too young to remember when there were riots lasting several days in British cities.

ironically far worse situations happened before the CJA; just that there wasn't the technology available for people to film it and upload it to the internet.

Yeah man i remember Toxteth and Brixton, Toxteth will be 25 years ago on the 5th July, and still to this day you can go to Toxteth and some of the streets are still borded up.
Just remember when you and I make a mistake we pay for it either financially or physically. When a politician makes a mistake WE ALL PAY FOR IT !

Just a piece of advise:
I think from my own experiance if you are placed in a situation where there is a possibility of conflict or violence either with the police or the general public the best things you can do is either pack up and leave quietly OR attempt to come to a comprimise. As a policeman you would be quite surprised if you are approached by an organiser if you just say "how about if i turn in down a bit mate ?" the response you will get will probobly just be a "NO" but that then inturn will challenge the case against you if your rig is taken. Try watching a policeman explain in court that the music was too loud and was causing a disterbance, and that when approached the organiser asked if it was ok to continue if the noise was reduced. Any good solicitor could argue a case of wrongful detainment of property and would get your rig back.

Obviously if you're chewing your earlobes off at the time, and your eyes have turned to liqourice whips then you may find this hard to do but honestly i would try it.

Amazing video. Loved the crowd trying to save the genny. Didn't like seeing people get hurt... must have been a couple of meat-head cops and a lot of chilled ones...

We've had our tunes have we?

Long live the free party scene

end result though was the matey who took the video getting his house raided and his camera and all his videos of parties confiscated as evidence of "assault / obstruction on police officers" - he only got the kit back months later (although thankfully in one piece) but who knows what info cops have got from copying the tapes...

OTOH the police seemed to treat this incident as an "equal match" - no cops got done for attacking people (a complaint was made against them), no one got busted for taking the genset back from the cops..

but there is now loads more enforcement against free parties in this area and more surveillance of people/sites..

Is it realy such a good idea to post vieo like this up?

Given the fact that there are going to be case brought against the police, and also against party organisers, doy uo realy think that having a video which can potentially be used for evidence by both sides up on an internet forum like this is such a good idea?

I notice that other internet forum users have employed a self censorship tactic to stop police getting hold of more potentially incriminating evidence.

You may think that the video shows the police kicking off, but what it actually shows is police trying to seize equipment and being met with violence. (as well as a freeze frame displaying what is essentially a potentially leathal way to stack a sound system).

No one is happy about what went on, but untill the dust settles, I sugguest it would be a good idea to get video and photo evidence off websites asap...

to put it into perspective this sort of incident happens just as often (if not more so) in town centres when chavs and cops clash....

Angry See both sides

I'm not entirely sure that what I see here is an over reaction. People should definitely have somewhere to go raveing - but you need to stop mashing yourselves up for a little while and go and campaign for that in a sensible way. That's not meant to be insulting - it's just drugs/booze and politics do NOT mix.
But think about this; It's your job and duty to shut down this event where lots of people are on mind altering substances (alot of which can make people emotionally unstable) and you get charged at by a much larger amount of people than you have on your side. The try to just push people back for the large part of it, but eventually it had to come to snapping point didn't it. You can't attack people and not expect them to fight back. Even though I thought the video showed the police using alot more restraint than I would have managed in that situation - which is why I couldn't become a policeman.
I've been a drug taker in the past - and the problem with it is that it does alter your perceptions. Some of that is good don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to turn people into mindless conservatives, but it doesn't always help your ability to handle situations on an emotional level.
Remember; there's always two sides of a confrontation.

OMG

in all the raves I have been I have never seen such horrid behaviour from the POLICE or the PEOPLE.... I must say I will rethink about going to raves in the UK if this is how people behave when the police arrives, their doing the job that someone asked them nothing more...course it sucks if they pull the plug of the system.... but first violance is never the options

also the police just coming in and stealing the generator...there are ways and ways

I come from italy and if the police arrives than they make the sound stop and talk to the organisers and what not never seen violance at any raves NEVER, nor from the police nor from the people that are there to enjoy themself...

just purely ridicolous behaviour from both parts I'm sorry... no raver would start with violance which was the case there...you can see the girl trying to stop the police guy with the generator in his hand and of course the respond from the other officer smacking her about....

once at a rave 1 september, was party organised for charity btw... the police where on site even before the party started and the sound was mounted and they were civilised also the police force... in the end the party went down as planned with some police coming here and there

if this how ravers and police behave in this country i fucking wait to go back to italy in my holidays to go to parties as neither of the two behaviours is acceptable....nor i tolerate...

amen

it is not always like this; most raves in UK do not have this sort of violence...

there can be up to 50 or more raves per year in England and only about 10 of these are closed down by police. Out of those maybe 4 or 5 have "riot situations".

There were reasons why this all happened - as much due to some bad decisions being made by crews as much as the reaction from the police.

Yes there is a "hooligan mentality" in this country but at the same time people are willing to come to peaceful decisions.
