Cigarrones may not be the best place for a festival. But what these 10-20 or so people have done by saying they don't want it is to stop the process that had begun over the last couple of years of trying to organise the festival.

Now there is no organisation whatsoever and people and rigs will come from all over Europe anyway.

Maybe it would have been better to work together to find a solution.

Last year we had stewards (we needed radios), we had first aid, we had rubbish collection, we had toilets and we did have 4x4's on standby to get out across the river if there was an emergency and we raised money to cover most costs and still have some in the pot for 2009.

It was in no way perfect, but it was a start.

If you would like to help with what was started last year, please donate or volunteer to help by email to builder(at)dragon-festival.com

re damage by dragon fest

ONE weekend of every year is the dragon fest, just one. i do feel sorry for the people who live there and suffer... but for gods sake theres enough rock to build a castle never mind BUILD YOURSELVES A WALL ROUND THAT WHICH YOU WISH TO PROTECT.

My family and i have members of a certain teepee community trudging illegally through our land EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR. we have an acequia so we cannot cordone it off. So instead of joining the local facists who want said community removed, we have made our house and the things we cherish as safe as we can as we have been robbed. i may not want to live like these fredom fighters but i support their cause because ISNT THIS WHY WE ALL LEFT THE UK?

We were sick of a SELFISH MINORITY HAVING POWER over everyone else. Now the residents of tijola and ciggarones have allegedly denounced the ayudamiento and the guardia for allowing the community of PEOPLE on the riverbed and in doing so hope to stop the dragon fest ruining their perfect little expat lives ONE WEEKEND A YEAR. So everybody, the latest is that the police have started to evict people from the site of ciggarones, which has existed for more than 12 years. Just before CHRISTMAS, while it is FREEZING, without warning, FAMILIES are being EVICTED because of their own countrymen and women. Tijola and ThoseofCiggarones i hope youre proud of yourselves because you make me sick!!!!! you are the shitty selfish bourgiosie that i left my homeland to get away from.

ive seen organised festivals run worse than the dragon. i think there is a bit more to be done to make it cleaner but dont forget most of the punters are spanish - they will make it happen and they are the ones who also need to be told-'shit in a plastic bag and put it in the bin' and 'take your rubbish bin to a refuse site, dont use the floor' . all this fighting amongst us whove chosen to come and live here is futile.....

donation & offer to help

I for one have donated through the site and will be more than willing to do some stewarding and rubbish clean up. and know that many of my mates will do the same. this is what dragon needs the same as any free pARTY, that is self-governed. last year I had a flight back for work but cleaned the bit where we were before leaving and this year will have my truck and be able to stay for a few day and clean up.

we have a [T]emporary [A]utnomous [A]rt fundraiser arranged in brighton before dragon and i'm sure we can spare some funds and will happily add more to the pot

I think the problem lies in the municipality and its mayor PP
Adolfo Martin Padial (PP), if united leftist political party or another, these things were not ...

(Orgiva PSOE insta PP obligue dimitir alcalde Orgiva auditora cuentas municipales)

Perhaps no festivities throughout andalucia?

Not enough people think they are to have a series of hygienic measures and collect garbage?

still not knowing what is bad is that the proposed organization and work as far as possible, at the end of the Dragon are tod @ s

Dragon Orgiva and in that spirit that we must preserve it, go somewhere else is something other than raise .-...

Talking Dragon Festival

Hi everyone. great to see so much interest in the dragon. lot of valid points, some people get it some don't. if free means 10000 people coming to cigy, shitting, dumping rubish, attacking neighbours, and treating the area as a shit heap it then fuck off.i started it in my field 13 years ago to bring people together, break down barriers and celebrate the coming of spring etc. i run a system and do free parties when i can which has given me the gift of partial patience. to all the 24/7 crew ( tribal funk runs for min 5 days each time 24/7), never seen anyone of you lot 2 weeks later on your knees picking up rubbish and human shit. the festival is a microcosm of life and one thing is TOTALLY CLEAR and that is peoples inability to sort their shit out, wheither it IS shit, piss, rubbish or general stuff. Don't dump on cigy as it isn't a quarry as some dick said and one of the reasons is we all stood in front of the fucking riot squad to protect the area which is more than 10000 other people didn't do. i want the dragon to continue as i believe strongly in it but if it means wiping the arse of 10000 people who can't, then take your shit away, you don't deserve to enjoy such a beautiful place and event

guey

Well, as i can see there are lot of opinions in here, and most of them want the festival to go ahead. just to remind, that the shit is fertilizer, isnt it? well, i understand that it is not very nice have the shit near your house, or in your garden ( people who live in cities have also on the street, in that case from dogs); but be aware that it is only shit and in one week is totally gone.

i think that the festival is too important or too big to stop it (i think you could understand what i mean_ im spanish and my english is not the best one_)

SO I RECOMEND THE PEOPLE WHO IS AGAINST SOME THINGS OF THE FESTIVAL ( BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT SUPPOSE TO BE AGAINST THE FESTIVAL, ONLY SOME THINGS LIKE SHIT, HEALTH RISKS...) TO KEEP THEIR ENERGIES TO MAKE THE PEOPLE AWARE ABOUT THE BAD THINGS OF THE FESTIVAL TO FIX IT.

BUEN ROLLITO! and as im use to see and listen, PROHIBIDO PROHIBIR. CONCIENCIACION, EDUCACION, RESPETO...CON EL TIEMPO TODO LLEGA, Y A ESTE FESTIVAL TAMBIEN LLEGARA. POR MI PARTE YA LLEGO, Y VEO OTRA MUCHA GENTE TAMBIEN RESPETUOSA.

It takes a year to decompost human shit, that all the viruses and diseases are dead. Now I'm talking about cholera and other nasty stuff, you would not let your kids to go near by.

People in town have townhalls and those townhalls employ people to deal with your dog's shit. That how it works, it just does not magicaly disapear in a week.

Moving the festival is the only way how to prevent it to die.

Last news from Cigarrones, from the place festival used to be...

It seems that local authorities finaly decided to act. And miracle has happened, they did not use power to stop the festival, they didn't decide to spend silly money on police blocks and fight with festival goers. They decided to do something much better, enviromentaly friendly, positive and so rare that we all should be thankful. Yes, they decided to plant trees, actualy not only few of them they're planning to plant 1800 trees on the land of Hidrografica and all the locals (mostly old spanish campesinos), who agreed to have a forest instead of a scrapyard. Now show me one activist, who would go and protest against tree planting. Perhaps some filthy capitalist wanting a nice industrial zone, surely that's not the case of people living here around.

So far holes have been dug as you can see on the pictures. It looks bit spooky to see whole space of the festival dug up, but you can see that the digger did not damage any of the old trees, broom bushes or any of the original vegetation!

I appeal to everyone, have a look at the pics and do not come with sound systems, there is not any space for you to set up. Of course if anyone can come up with an alternative space (perhaps Santa Fe - thermal springs), the fesitval could go on there. But honestly Cigarrones valley is not the right place anymore.

it's a minefield...

If you think that what the Medio Ambiente have just done is good for the environment, then you are seriously deluded. They have turned the river bed into an extremly dangerous place for small children - of which there are many, living both on the river bed and in Ciggarones village - and have destroyed what little topsoil there is left after past floodings, as now it will blow away in the wind. Hardly environmentally friendly!

The trees that they say will be planted are not going to be put in till december (!!!), thus they have achieved their objective of making the riverbed an unsuitable place to hold the festival whilst not actually fulfilling their supposed main objective!!! In what way(s) can this be viewed as a positive action?

The trees that were planted last year along the track next to the cantera - have all died!!! Great bit of eco-action! If you plat new trees, it's bloody obvious that they will need regular wtering until they are established. Do the Medio Ambiente intend to put in watering systems for all these trees for the first three-ish years, or are the people who encouraged this monstruous action going to get out there and do it?

Is anyone really thinking of the future here?

I hope that the Ciggarones dwellers who are not in favour of the festival feel as though they have achieved something here - and i hope that it pricks at their consciences every time they drive along the track and see the hideous mess that has been made in the last few days.

There is still a ton of room around the river bed in ciggerones, I for one am not going to be moved or intimidated by the laughable attempts of the local authorities. To the middle class land owning fuckwits of the village i would say that you must be mental if you think that the transient population on the riverbed are bothered by what has happened over the last week, for the most part we are a pretty lawless bunch as it is and the sight of a few guardia civil putting up fences and digging holes is going to stop yhe dragon, in fact quite the opposite. it would seem that most of the flat land left is directly under your property. Come one come all the dragon is on although this year it may be more of a protest than a celebration, bring a rig, bring your friends but most important bring a spade and fill in the holes that cant be used for planting untill next winter anyway. You miserable fascist land owning cunts, more worried about the price of your property than the price of your freedom.

Wow

Wow I can't believe everyone is getting so worked up. Feel quite sad reading all these posts of people from our comunity all arguing amounst themselves. There are much bigger things going on out there has no one noticed. I can't believe that the people who are trying to stop the dragon come from our world. Why are we waisting so much energy fighting amounst ourselves when there is so much more important things to fight for. We are playing in to the hands of the authorities, its the oldist trick in the book, devide and rule. Once we tart fighting amounst ourselves it is all over.

Matagringajos

It is not an English festival it is an international festival, a large proportion of the systems and traders last year were Spanish, and anyway unless we are fascists nationality is irelavent.

H I P O C R I T A S !!!!!
