Whats shropshire like?

There is a possiblility i could end up working in Telford. The only thing that puts me off the job is the location!

Does anyone know what the scene is like in shropshire?..both licensed and not licensed.

Cheers

did a bit of research (once I'd worked out where shropshire actually is) and its like the midlands equivalent of Suffolk

its quite a posh area (well compared to Brum or Wolverhampton), good to work and live in but its party scene got locked down a few years ago due to middle england backlash...

looks like its still near enough Birmingham and Wales for partying.. there is a UK hardcore night in the "midnites entertainment complex" but I get the impression the council doesn't like this sort of thing and makes it difficult for promoters...

hello there, shropshire is a beautiful place if you have a campervan. Shrewsbury is very middle class twee affluent country town and telford is pretty much like milton keynes, a new city without a heart or soul. Those are the two biggest towns in shropshire.

Telford has a couple of night clubs in the shopping precinct i think but i have heard they're pretty shite, shrewsbury has the buttermarket which i even hear of people up in leeds travellling down to for nights. dubclub is quite famous, the drum n bass nights are quite regular and have quite big names and it's generally an alright place as far as licenced venues go. it's all so rural round there (shropshire is the most rural county in england!) but there is a bit of a scene.

People from telford and shrewsbury do parties every now and then, only outdoor parties, with all that countryside and no cities for warehouses it makes sense, but means its only in summer really.

I've been to some parties on amazing sites around the welsh borders and in wales that are done by shropshire crews. Its all about having a vehicle. which i never did :(

My best advice would be to chat to people on dontstayin.co.uk or whatever it's called in the shrewsbury or telford section. if you move to the area go to the buttermarket and get to know people and you'll be on yer way ;)

only just spotted this, having worked a lot in telford myself i'd concur with the similarities to milton keynes, boring. Not seen that much decent club life there, Shrewsbury has a good club called the buttermarket. been to a few good nights there of varying styles. Shropshire as a county still has free partys although i haven't heard of that many this year, but i did get told one of the regular crews had their van stolen in the summer thus no way of getting the rig out and about Anyway you know i'd let ya know if i heard of owt happening.

hello :) ive registered on here just to post this! was actually searching google for shrewsbury dubclub to see what popped up. i think with a town like shrewsbury you need to take a look at what you've got for the size of the place, which is an awful lot! telford has nice areas *to live* but in all honesty, completely forget about the scene there, it doesn't exist. i live in central shrewsbury and have lived in london and manchester - and im still here. as mentioned on this thread we have the buttermarket which plays host to a huge array of music. admittedly it is the only large venue/club in the town but you really can find most things going on there. There are also some nice bars worth mentioning, the Salopian Bar - serves up real ales and has regular music events. The Vaults had SHY FX there at the weekend and there is a newer venue opened above the Albert Pub which has a lot of guest bands. What is really notable about shrewsbury is the enthusiasm and effort involved with the music scene. i am a promoter myself and i know most of the other promoters in the town - an awful lot of effort goes on round the clock to make things happen around here. We also have a fair few decent pubs which host regular entertainment. Here's a quick rundown of whats currently going on:

2Kilos Of Funk (2Kilos Of Funk, Shrewsburys Freshest, Funkiest Party) - Funk, Soul, Hip Hop, Boogie. This is my night that I operate with a couple of mates. Jon Kennedy is our resident and we pull in decent DJ's on a regular absis from around the globe. Described as the Guardian as one of the best things about Shrewsbury and rated no.1 night in the midlands in August when we had Chad jackson and Peter parker (of Fingathing) down.

Dubclub (dubclub.tv) - Dub, Roots and Reggae with guest soundsystems and live acts. This is well erstablished and is always a quality night

Traffic - Minimal techno
Invasion - Hard House
Sub:Soundz - Drum & Bass (big names)
Tremors - Drum & Bass (more darkside, had spor and break down recently)
System Shock - Drum & Bass (we have a lot of dnb nights!)
Quartz - Funky/Electro House
Fuzzy Logic - Electro House
Mad Cow - Breaks
All About The Core - Hardcore
uLike - Hard Techno
Energized - Techno

Theres also many more smaller nights in operation and lots of people with soundystems knocking about. Free parties are still going on, but not as many as there were.

In short there's one hell of a lot of passion, time and energy going on here and it shows... come take a look for youself :)

Hope that's made your move a little more appealing if it happens, best of luck either way and be sure to give me a shout if you do end up here (can contact me through the 2kilos site), I'd be happy to show you around
