nah registering only was more to stop trolls and abusive people

back then (only 4-6 years ago!) it was a different climate

you once could post the entire partyline and even a rough region on here

people could be given party info on their first newbie post

the rave would go ahead and the cops would do 100% of jack shit

and you could post photos of the rig, name the crews, say how good the party was both on here and on SJ (which was actually a far friendlier place back then!)

it was only around 2004 the cops started half heartedly getting info from the forums but they stepped it up when everyone started boasting about stuff like vandalism/anti social behaviour (i.e putting up pictures of smashed buildings and human shit in odd places for jokes)

so people got less happy to give out info hence threads like this and (sadly) it was when the feds clamped down crews turned on one another and the rivalry between forums exacerbated - rather than fight babylon we fought each other.

thats why I may often sound "pessimistic". Younger ravers aren't often fully aware just how much we have lost in barely 5 years.

That said, I think half the youths at the start of the thread did find their parties in the end, either through here or SJ, proper caned it for a year or two and then burned out and never went raving again. They didn't go mad or get rehab though, most just are now in work, college or are parents but they no longer support the party scene they once loved.

incidentally since moving here I did ask why younger people from East Anglia seemed so happy to put up their mobile numbers on a public forum, which I thought was a big security risk.

Turned out that the reason was fairly simple - many had more than one phone or (in the case of girls) were used to dealing with random callers or even stalkers anyway as lads what want to get with them are stubborn and persistent or if rejected often put their phone number on line anyway or on toilet walls (like middle school tactics FFS)

but often internet access and computers was shared with parents and siblings so they couldn't go on line as much (also many parts of East Anglia did not have broadband until a couple of years ago!)

i think you sound probably realistic, but also i think your opinion has been altered by living in 2 places that have fucked up their rave scene, whereas other places it's still relatively underground and doesnt cause any problems.

the reason us young uns occasionally call older ravers on here pessimistic is because we are hardly going to have no hope for the future. to be told how good it was when we were about 4 years old is interesting but also somewhat frustrating.

if you can't be slightly optomistic as a young person, then its a bit sad imo.

btw this is not directed at you personally (apart from the first paragraph), as i've read many posts of yours talking about rose-tinted specs etc. but it seems there is a big gap between young uns and older ravers on here.

In a nutshell becky, they're not.

There's been a concentrated campagin by the police to shut down every single one that has happened in the last 6 months. And it worked, most people won't even think about it, those that do get shut down. It's that simple.

There's some good legal stuff going on this summer though. It's probably the best you'll get.

Heading to Norfolk for May Bank Holiday

Hey there

Me and my crew are heading to Norfolk for the May bank holiday.

We are not from here.

We have enjoyed raving all over the world and have heard good things about the Norfolk free party scene. How can we find out about partying in the countryside while we are there?

Can anyone help please?

Last Night was an A1, tip-top, clubbing, jam fair. It was a sandwich of fun, on ecstasy bread, wrapped up in a big bag like disco fudge. It doesn't get much better than that. I just wish that I could control these *fucking mood swings!*

Yeah man

I've resisted joining forums for ages, but his one seems pretty cool. I'm looking to have my best summer ever, hopefully meet some good people too!!

I'm not sure about how it all works but I'm guessing I hang around until I find a good fit. I like outdoor parties, dancing to good music in the Sun... y'know, I'm normal.

seems a bit negative about the free party scene at the mo.
if all these folks are asking for contacts does this mean that party lines on Urban 75 (united systems etc) are on clampdown 2?

its coming from the party people them selves evry post about a party on here has a negative post or 3 added to it siting laws n busts ect. when everyones buzzin after asucsessful party you get the same few negative posts, its very morral destroying when we should be building momentum and accesing what we have done right. theres enough problems on the scene without building excessive paranoia. the police for there part dont want to be busting partys (without just cause) if everythings done right and no problems are caused you wont get bussted. I dont think police go looking for partys to bust i think they wait for complaints then visit, then if needs be bust. maybe if theres continual poroblems in one area then maybe they will do abit more, but for the most part its just paranoia.

I sent info to a couple of folk with vry little posts on here last year and got some of the best supporters of our rig going. so there u go...

Those partylines are out of date and have not been used for ages. Southern partylines are now usually spread through word of mouth or getting to know people in person. there is a reason for the "paranoia" in recent times. It mostly relates to the South and East of England but a large proportion of our users are still from those regions.

Take a look at our forum from 2002-2004 onwards and you will see loads of party posts with locations, partylines, crew names in them and also detailed reviews of parties. Exactly the same happened on SJ, Kacchina and all the other party forums around that time (most of which apart from PV and SJ have folded)

Everything went so well, crews got complacent, overdid certain areas, put larger and larger rigs into them, partied for too long and didn't clear up and caused more complaints. That led to the first wave of clampdowns and is why there are virtually no parties in some parts of SE England and those what remain are done by fairly "secretive" crews.

Its not a case of being overly paranoid of new users (99% of them are here in good faith) but simply being careful what you post about what many normal people deem to be a crime.

The cops may come across as more lenient than the man in the street and are still lenient in some areas but only because they don't always have resources to close down every party.

they get complaints from public that they are "not doing enough", this is why Norfolk went to acceptance to zero tolerance in just a few months, and Suffolk/Essex locked down a few years ago The same happened in Thames Valley a few years back.

These two areas represent the bulk of the rave locations for a lot of Southern England, which is why things look bad. Its a whole quarter of the country...

Its like the gary boys who post videos of themselves speeding on YT or others posting footage of crime/anti social behaviour. Most of them and their mates get trouble because someone simply sees the stuff on line and cuts and pastes the link in an email to the cops - they do have a lot more IT-literate coppers these days.

That goes for any public internet forum. We have lost some of our free speech because we shouted too loud in the past and at the moment little can be done about it. In some areas even putting legal events on here gets the events checked out by feds due to "possible links with illegal raves".

Use this place to meet people, find out about legal events, chat about rigs , computers and other stuff and exchange music - but if you want to chat detailed stuff about parties you are better off on MSN or mobile phones or private messages.

The cops need a lot more paperwork to get at those things (a Court Order as opposed to just scanning a forum) and normally will only do so if people are involved in other crime such as drug dealing or theft.
